Submission Deadline for IMRO Comórtas BEO 2016

February 5, 2016

BEO invites schools in Ireland to organize a live music event in their area. While BEO is basically about teenagers organizing gigs for themselves BEO will also be asking participants to use the event to promote “cúpla focal” gaeilge while also having a social conscience.

BEO is a national organisation that started in Donegal in 2009. BEO aims to get young people interested in music by encouraging them to organise a series of concerts in their local area. Students are in charge of every aspect of the organisational process – booking the acts, promotion of events, filming of concerts etc. This encourages an interest in live music, while helping students develop a wide range of organisational and communication skills.

Finalists for the competition will be selected using the following criteria

  1. An event organized by said school BEO school committee 20% (10% of which is footage of the gig, at least a 2 min montage to be shown in your presentation) This year an IMRO type module must be included as part of the organized event.
  2. Promotion of original music – 20%
  3. PR and marketing of the gig (including social media, TV, radio and newspapers) 20%
  4. The promotion of Gaeilge 20% (to include a slogan in Irish such as “mo theanga mo cheol” 30% of all social media will be ‘as Gaeilge’ and 50% of video commentary will also be ‘as Gaeilge’.
  5. Social conscience. 10%
  6. Social Conscience 10% (Comoradh 100 bliain is the suggested social conscience theme for 2015/16

BEO activity now can qualify for GAISCE accreditation

Comórtas BEO is still taking applications for 2016. Each school will prepare a 7 min video of their event to be forwarded to BEO, ( details on the website) by February 5th. A panel of BEO judges will select six schools for the final.

These finalists will be announced 19th February.

The final will be held on Friday March 11th with each school presenting their entry to the judging panel. BEO’s 2016 national champions will be announced at a special gig that evening.

Winners to date have been Bridgetown Community School Wexford (2012), Scoil Phól Kilfinnan Limerick (2013) and last year saw the prize head south again to Pobalscoil na Troinoide in Youghal Co. Cork (2014). For the first time last year Colaiste na Carraige from Donegal were crowned IMRO Comórtas BEO champions 2015.
