John Spillane to Perform at the IMRO Christie Hennessy Song Competition Live Final

November 13, 2012

John Spillane has been announced as the special guest at the live final of the 2012 IMRO Christie Hennessy Song Competition taking place this Saturday, 17th November in the Brandon Hotel, Tralee.

Two-time Meteor award winner, John is one of the most accomplished songwriters in Ireland today and has had songs covered by Christy Moore, Karan Casey, Pauline Scanlon and Sharon Shannon to name but a few. John is renowned for his captivating performances in which he effortlessly flits between beautiful poetry tinged with melancholy to roguish, irreverent Cork humour.

The live final of the 2012 IMRO Christie Hennessy Song Competition will feature performances from the ten finalists selected from over 200 entries across Ireland. The winning songwriter will be presented with a cheque for €1,000 on the night, courtesy of Tralee Chamber Alliance.

The IMRO Christie Hennessy Song Competition takes place as a tribute to the life and music of one of Tralee’s most famous sons. Among his songs which went on to be recorded by other artists were “All The Lies That You Told Me” performed by Frances Black, “Don’t Forget Your Shovel” performed by Christy Moore and “Oh Jealous Heart” performed by Moya Brennan.
