Debut EP from Otherkin

OtherkinOtherkin are a four-piece hailing from Kildare made up of a designer, a marketing graduate and two medical students. The band are about to release their debut EP, “Broken English”, with a launch gig planned for 5th June.

An eclectic range of musical backgrounds, from alternative indie to hardcore punk, has allowed Otherkin to craft a unique sound that blends elements of lo-fi 90’s Americana and forward-thinking new wave, all the while incorporating the accessibility you wouldn’t normally associate with either genre.

They are a DIY band in the full sense of the word, being involved in the production of every aspect of the band’s output, be it directing music videos, designing merchandise or self-producing their debut EP. They’re feeling hungry, thinking big and intend on following up their debut release with a string of live dates in the coming months.

Check out Otherkin live at The Workman’s Club on 5th June for their EP launch.

‘Hey Sean’ track in support of Green Ribbon Campaign

DermoLambertDermot Lambert, frontman with acclaimed Irish band Blink will release “Hey Sean” from his upcoming solo album “Tiny” to help kick-start a new Irish campaign to get people talking about mental health.

Taking place during the month of May, the green ribbon campaign will see 150,000 ribbons distributed nationwide and free of charge with the aim of sparking a national conversation about mental health in Ireland’s boardrooms, break-rooms, chat-rooms, clubhouses, arts venues, college campuses and around kitchen tables.

“Hey Sean” can be pre-ordered on iTunes and will officially go on sale on Friday 17th May with all proceeds going towards the green ribbon campaign. Funds raised by the single will go towards making the month of May every year synonymous with challenging the stigma of mental health problems and lay groundwork for real and lasting change in Irish attitudes and behaviours to mental health.

During his ten years with Blink, Lambert enjoyed great success both at home and abroad, with three platinum selling albums, and numerous hit singles, including Cello, It’s Not My Fault, Going to Nepal and Happy Day.

Blink also enjoyed numerous award nominations, and critical acclaim from The Irish Times to Hot Press to Billboard Magazine. Whilst blazing a trail for Irish musicians with his Garageland Project in recent years, Dermot has had significant successes, including bringing the likes of The Script, Ryan Sheridan, Royseven, Delorentos, & Ham Sandwich to their first ever live shows – while at the same time, always putting this work together in his own ‘garage’, which is now finally ready for release on June 28th with a launch show in the Village and appearances at Electric Picnic are also planned.

5 Time Grammy Award Winning Producer Steve Lillywhite Joins ‘The Hit’!

The legendary producer who has shaped the sound of bands like U2, The Killers, Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band, Talking Heads, Morrissey, The Pogues, Peter Gabriel and Thirty Seconds To Mars has just signed up for the new series of RTÉ’s songwriting talent show ‘The Hit’SteveLillywhite

Steve’s knowledge and experience will be invaluable as he searches for the right songs (and songwriters) to send into the pitching rooms, where writers will receive the opportunity to pitch their songs directly to established stars. If the star likes the song they may well choose it as their next hit single so Steve’s decisions are hugely important.

If anyone can recognise a hit it’s Steve Lillywhite who is very excited to be involved in the series

“The Hit is a show that puts the song centre stage where it should be. As any artist will tell you: a great song can change a career overnight”

Songwriters who want the chance to kickstart their career overnight should complete the following questionnaire and send it together with a copy of their song lyrics to thehit@nullvipmg.tv along with an mp3 or mp4 recording of their song (or a link to where the song can be streamed/downloaded) before the closing date of May 24th 2013
