Sive releases ‘Turn Down the Silence’ EP

SIVEKildare-based songwriter Sive has just released her first post-album EP titled Turn Down the Silence.

Sive’s debut album We Are Moving was well-received in 2012 and gained her a steady listenership around the country. The latest single to be released from it, Hide and Seek, earned her an invitation to perform on TV3’s Ireland AM and was used in RTE’s ‘The Importance of Being Whatever’.

This new 4-track EP deviates slightly from the sound that Sive and her band developed on We Are Moving, with a strong focus on string arrangements and layers of vocal harmonies. It blends a variety of the genres that influenced its creation, paying homage to folk, jazz and baroque pop music.

“Each of the songs have this teasing beginning in which you can almost hear the roots of the songs resonating beneath the surface, but as they progress layers of sound are added in the form of vocals and percussion to take you away from them so you end up no longer digging for the roots, but standing atop the tallest of trees in a gale-force wind.” – Stephen Murphy, Golden Plec

Sive’s upcoming tour will take in Debarra’s of Clonakilty on 27th November and Ryan’s of Kilkenny on 11th December with more dates to be added soon.

Sixoversix set to release debut ‘Circadian Rhythm’ EP

sixoversixSixoversix, a Dublin-based contemporary progressive rock band, will be releasing their debut EP ‘Circadian Rhythm’ early November 2013.

After some no-strings-attached jams between close friends, in 2012 the group began recording a variety of rough material and chose a select five songs for full production and release as their upcoming EP. To set themselves apart from similar groups, while writing they deliberately ignored any genre rules of thumb, or instrumentation difficulties “We had almost completely different music tastes, but with a common alt-rock vibe” explains singer and guitarist Niall Daly, “so we decided to let every song have elements or take directions that didn’t suit our set-up, or that some of us didn’t like, and then just kept tweaking and re-tweaking it until something clicked and the song worked!”

Each member drawing on their wealth of live experience in previous acts, they began gigging between studio works to hone their live show. Their first single of the EP ‘Skyline’ will be formally launched at The Clonsilla Inn, Dublin 15, Friday October 25th at 10pm. on Friday October 25th, and the band will be touring immediately following the EP’s release. “We have really enjoyed the writing and recording process” says drummer Colin Kelly “but we are at that stage now where we are really psyched to start gigging again and promoting the EP. Having spent so long in the studio perfecting the tracks we can’t wait to see the crowd react to the finished product.”

When not gigging, as the group have their own studio at their disposal (where they produced the EP), they are constantly looking to progress and challenge themselves in the writing process. They already have a number of new songs in early production for future releases.

‘Circadian Rhythm’ is now available for preview on Facebook, Band-camp and Breaking Tunes.
