Scoring Success For Valentine

Irish composer Dean Valentine has just landed the job of scoring the music for the official trailer for ‘Fury’, a new war movie featuring Brad Pitt which is due for release in the Autumn.  Dean is steadily carving out a name for himself as a go-t0 composer in this field of film/TV composition, with a string of recent successes in this area in recent times.

His The Hunger Games: Catching Fire trailer http://youtu.be/keT5CRhhy84 has now racked up 2 awards (Golden Trailer Award, Trailer Music News Award)

His feature documentary film ‘Close To Evil‘ about Holocaust survivor Tomi Rechental will be screened at Galway Film Fleadh and RTE will screen the full feature edit later this year.

 

Swords headline at Button Factory

Swords will Swords-Other-Voices1host their only summer headline, and biggest show to date on Friday July 25th in The Button Factory, Dublin. Following on from their support slot in The Olympia Theatre the group (Diane Anglim, Jarlath Canning and Ian Frawls) have been away writing new material will debut some new tracks at the Button Factory show.

Swords will see support from Deaf Joe and Elastic Sleep at their Button Factory show. Doors open at 7:30pm.

Patrick Kelleher and Magic Pockets play Seven Quarters event at Whelans

This July 4th Seven Quarterswill see Patrick Kelleher and his Cold Dead Hands double-headline along with Magic Pockets at Whelans as part of the Seven Quarters club night.

Seven Quarters is different from any other club night happening in Ireland as they give ticket holders a different limited edition seven inch vinyl, featuring previously unreleased tracks, from the artists performing each club night. The seven inch vinyl will be given away for free to the first 150 people in the door as part of the club entry.

Seven Quarters is a new project by Barry Lennon (Richter Collective, Community of Independents and Hands Up Who Wants to Die) and looks to feature some of the most exciting acts in the Irish music scene. For this second night (the first night saw Katie Kim and Jennifer Evans performing) Barry Lennon hopes “each limited edition release the club does will help document and highlight the amazing inspiration musicians and sometimes unspoken talent we have in Ireland“.

Featuring X announce live tour dates

In light of (finally) completing the grueling Leaving Cert, Featuring X are back on the live music scene to promote their forthcoming single, released on Thursday 26th June 2014.

With a  string of HMV instore dates behind them; playing HMV/Xtravision Drogheda, Dundalk and Navan, the quintet are now set to reveal where you can see them play this Summer.

Drummer Jenny McKeown reveals “What is there to say other than we are back and back bigger than ever. It has been the busiest year of our lives dealing with exams, life CAO and most importantly band. We have been preparing this release for the guts of nine months now and we are eager to get to every venue in the country to play Wild Love live.”

International Songwriting Competition 2014 call for entries

The International logo_2014Songwriting Competition (ISC) has announced its judging panel for the 2014 competition which is now accepting entries. This year, ISC has expanded on the participation of music industry executives, offering the opportunity for artists to have their music heard by the highest level of decision-makers in the music business. Judges include Presidents and CEOs from Republic, Atlantic, Warner Bros., Elektra, Columbia, Virgin, Sony Music Latin, Mercury, Wind-Up, Tommy Boy, Alligator, S-Curve, and Concord Music Group.

Coupled with additional high-profile industry executives and an notable group of recording artists – many of whom are currently dominating the charts – ISC offers the opportunity for artists to have their music heard by the most impressive and elite panel of judges yet.

This year we decided to invite more record company executives in order to open up more opportunities to songwriters and artists,” states Candace Avery, Founder and Director. “It is so difficult for up-and-coming artists to reach these elusive music executives, so this is an incredible chance for artists to have their music heard by the people who actually make career-changing decisions. We are very excited and honored that so many high-level industry professionals want to participate – this is truly unprecedented in any competition.”

ISC gives away more than $150,000 in cash and prizes (shared among the 68 winners) including an overall Grand Prize consisting of $25,000 (US) cash and $30,000 in prizes. Open to both amateur and professional songwriters, ISC offers 22 categories to enter, representing all genres of popular music. Past winners have included Grammy winners, chart-topping artists, amateur songwriters, and everyone in between, including Bastille; Gotye; Lindsey Stirling; Kimbra; The Band Perry; Andrew Bird; Passenger; Gin Wigmore; Missy Higgins; King Charles; and many more.

Wonder Villains release debut album ‘Rocky’ + video for ‘Zola’

Taken from their WV4newly released debut album ‘Rocky’ the upbeat party-pop of Wonder Villains‘ first single ‘Zola’ fits right in with the current summer weather and World Cup fever. The video (featuring the single’s namesake Gianfranco Zola) sees the act mentored by the former footballer.

Hailing from Derry, the group will be performing some live shows over the next few weeks:

Color//Sound unveil video for debut single ‘To The Countryside’

Having met and formed Color//Sound at BIMM Dublin in 2012 Oisin Furlong, Brendan McGlynn, Steven McCann and Ben Roe have come on leaps and bounds in the last two years.

With influences ranging from Elliott Smith and Jeff Buckley to Explosions In The Sky and Radiohead, this band draws inspiration from all genres and combines them to create their own explosive sound. After a year of extensive gigging alongside the countries cream of the crop, including Cathy Davey, Villagers, Little Matador, Neil Hannon & Turn the band have released the video for their debut single ‘To The Countryside’.

Having previously hosted breakthrough acts such as Hozier, Villagers, The Frames, The Strypes and Jape, Hard Working Class Heroes has seen a phenomenal amount of talent grace its stages.

Sue Callaghan releases ‘Nothing Short of Everything’ album

SueCallaghanSue Callaghan is a guitar / flute / piano player and singer songwriter based in Dublin.

Sue released her debut album as a solo artist in 2009. ‘Not In Love’ features acoustic guitars, lead and backing vocals, piano, drums, and electric guitar, and a string quartet. With this album Sue spent the next few years playing the songs at gigs / showcases / events around Dublin and Ireland as well as taking her album on tour around Europe.

Cormac O Caoimh releases “The Moon Loses its Memory” album

Cormac O CaoimhCormac O Caoimh has just released his new album and his third solo outing “The Moon Loses its Memory” . But this cd is a different collection of songs. Some (Basement, Silver as mercury and Burning Coal) are exploring darker subject matter to previous releases. Others (Maze of your hear, Man of Sand and Yellow Crumbs) fit closer to the indie pop collection of  his first cd (Start a Spark) and others continue in a similar style to the songs of A New Season for Love (but given a different treatment).

And yet..they all fit together either sonically or thematically. The finished product was also a very unique collaboration between the audio and the visual, between pictures and words, between stories and dreams…between the songwriter (Cormac O Caoimh) and between the photographer (William Crowley). William Crowley chose 14 of his wonderful photographs that personally related to each song.
