Pope’s composing credits include MY WEEK WITH MARILYN and TIM’S VERMEER.  John Williams, Alexandre Desplat, James Newton Howard, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, John Powell, Hans Zimmer, and Mark Isham have all called upon his gifts as an arranger, orchestrator and conductor.

Pope is one of the most exciting original voices in contemporary film scoring today contributing to over a hundred movies. He has worked side by side with Hollywood’s top professionals; Joe Johnston and Walter Murch on Universal’s THE WOLFMAN, Scott Hicks on NO RESERVATIONS and Gary Ross on SEABISCUIT.

Over two days composers working in film, television, animation, games and visual media will have the opportunity to explore with Pope the mechanics of writing music to visual media in today’s landscape of expanding opportunities looking at the challenges of crafting scores for major Hollywood blockbusters to small independent films.

Pope will also explore music in film today sharing his views and experience regarding the process of scoring film; its methods and techniques, its practical concerns, the constantly evolving aesthetics and technical advancements and the new tools and techniques necessary to meet these ever emerging challenges, as well the unchanging, necessary skills –both musical and dramatic- that form the foundation for a successful and sustainable career in commercial film music.

Irish Composers on Irish Music: Anne-Marie O’Farrell

The anne-marie o'farrellAssociation of Irish Composers presents:

Irish Composers on Irish Music:

Anne-Marie O’Farrell (harp)

in association with The Drawing Room

4.30pm, 31 May 2015

12 Henrietta Street, Dublin

The final event in the AIC’s Irish Composers on Irish Music concert series sees us join forces with The Drawing Room to present a very special concert in the beautiful Georgian house at 12 Henrietta St.

Anne-Marie O’Farrell’s harp recital on 31st May features two kinds of harp, the pedal harp (normally used in classical orchestral settings), and the Irish harp, a modern version of our national instrument. The repertoire chosen expresses a range of musical languages explored by composers on these instruments over the last fifty years, from John Kinsella’s Allegro Giocoso of 1966, when the semitone mechanism on the Irish harp was an extremely basic one, to Anne-Marie’s own recent composition, Chromatétude which creates 12-note textures on the harp while also giving a nod to much older music heard at the Belfast 1792 harp festival. Kinsella’s work is also a representative piece from Sheila Larchet Cuthbert’s seminal volume for Irish harp, ‘The Irish Harp Book’. Pedal harp repertoire features the voices of James Wilson in his Sonata, Frank Corcoran with In the Deep Heart’s Core and Gráinne Mulvey in Explorations, who in their distinctive ways delve into the large timbral and pitch range of the pedal harp. A number of the works are receiving their first performance, including Mary Kelly’s three Aislingí for Irish harp. The recital creates a welcome opportunity to perform Boydell’s seldom heard but most idiomatic Triptych for Irish harp, and to give a further performance of David Bremner’s miniature Pool.

Irish Composers on Irish Music is supported by the Arts Council. The Association of Irish Composers is supported by IMRO.
