Annette Buckley Takes A Melody for unique music project, SomeRiseSomeFall

The unique, talent-laden Irish-Americana music eclective announce the release of their second single – the Allen Toussaint-penned, Jerry Garcia-covered, I’ll Take A Melody.

With Annette Buckley on vocals and instrumentation by Martin Leahy, this is an instantly compelling track, perfect for airplay and repeat listening. An upbeat, yet bluesy tune with a deceptively simple sound, and lyrics which capture the transformative power of music – such as the classic line “I’ll take a simple C to G, and feel brand new about it…”, and the final appeal to: “shine on, keep on shining…”

I’ll Take A Melody is the second single released by SomeRiseSomeFall on FITZZ Records, following 2015’s It’ll Shine When It Shines, with Hank Wedel and Martin Leahy. Both tracks will appear on the SomeRiseSomeFall album, SomeClimb, due for release in 2017. [The official music video for I’ll Take A Melody is produced & directed by Colm Walsh of Clap Media Ireland, atmospherically shot in black & white to stunning effect.]

Annette Buckley is well known on the live music scene in Ireland and Europe. Her debut album, The Ever-Changing Colours of the Sea, received rave reviews and a rating of 8.5/10 in Hot Press. Her song Whirlwind featured on HMV’s Playlist album. Annette has opened for Ryan Adams, Imelda May, Duke Special, Maria McKee, Damien Dempsey and Jack L, among others.
SomeRiseSomeFall is a collective of highly respected Cork-based musicians, including Ger Wolfe, Annette Buckley, Hank Wedel and Edel Sullivan, with all tracks superbly produced by Martin Leahy, and design art by Harry Moore.

Irish Indie Band Penrose To Release Their New Single ”Harmony” On October 21st

Irish Indie-Pop five piece Penrose, with front man Darragh McGrane at the helm, are set to release their new single “Harmony” on Oct 21st. Described as ‘a solid Indie Pop band with catchy uplifting indie songs and anthems that have “attitude” and stick in your head’, their new single doesn’t fall off the mark.

Mixing the ease & harmonies of The Beatles / ELO, the snarling vocals of Richard Ashcroft and the rhythmic acoustic guitars of Oasis, Penrose are a truly powerful force…live and on record. And now, the band is ready to make their mark on the international music scene.

The band successfully unveiled their debut EP “Live for the Dream” which charted at NO.3 in the Irish charts to a sell-out house of fans & media at The Grand Social July, 25th 2015. Followed up by a critically acclaimed single ‘MELODY’ which charted at No. 10 in the Irish charts and was picked up by all Irish national radio stations such as Today FM, FM 104 and RTE, with TV appearances to on RTE’s TwoTube, the band then followed this up with yet another sell out show to their home fans in Dublin’s Academy 2 venue.

Having just released another single ‘SIGN ON’ which charted No. 7 in MAY. With a string of summer dates in the UK and Ireland, Penrose were invited back to the UK by one of the industries most illuminated music managers Alan Mc Gee – to play gigs as part of the ‘Musicians against Homelessness campaign’, which the band are honoured to be participating in.

The Band have also been asked to support one of their main influences Aslan, as part of the ‘Made in Dublin’ Revisited gigs taking place in Vicar Street this Dec. With a new single, EP and debut Album to follow in 2017, it looks to be an exciting time for the band.

The band: The band consists of Caolan Fitzsimons (rhythm guitar), Mark Bolger (bass), Benji Hayes (Keys) and drummer Donal Bowens complementing McGrane’s lead vocals and lead guitar.

‘The Seven Suns’ is a concept album, enticing the listener on a journey through some of the mysteries of Ireland’s ancient past, full of stunning, new compositions for Uilleann Pipes and low whistle.

The importance of Western Europe’s megalithic civilisation and its influence on the Ancient World may have been overlooked by historians. Ireland may have held special significance — a sacred island, an astronomical temple, the spiritual centre of Europe’s Neolithic people.

John McSherry’s second solo outing, ‘The Seven Suns’, is a musical journey into the heart of ancient Ireland, richly inlaid with elements both personal and national, mundane and mythical.

Featuring pristine production, innovative arrangements, and masterful musicianship, ‘The Seven Suns’ is more than just a follow-up to the award-winning debut, ‘Soma’ – it surpasses it.

John McSherry has been a major figure in Irish music for almost 20 years. He is hailed as one of the finest exponents of the art of Uilleann piping in the world today, described as “a true master” by Irish Music Magazine.

He is a composer, producer, arranger and established studio session musician of world renown, having recorded and performed with the likes of Sinéad O’Connor, Rod Stewart, Nanci Griffith, Gary Kemp, The Corrs and Clannad – gracing the latter’s Grammy award-winning album, ‘Landmarks’.

A founder member of top traditional music bands Lúnasa, Tamalin and Dónal Lunny’s ‘Coolfin’ in the 1990s, John has subsequently produced a string of critically acclaimed and innovative albums, both solo and collaborative, as well as co-writing ‘The Wheels Of The World: 300 Years of Irish Uilleann Pipers’ (Jawbone Press, 2015), a benchmark publication in traditional music history and appreciation.
