CC Brez Shares Video for “When It Falls”

CC Brez has just shared the video for his latest new single ‘When It Falls’.

2016 saw a busy year touring for CC supporting the release of his debut album ‘The Nightfall’. The album garnered some great reviews and some stand out gigs of 2016 included performances at the Electric Arena stage at the Electric picnic, Longitude, Sea Sessions and Indiependance. In October 2016, after a support slot with Brian Deady at the Cork Jazz Festival, CC decided to take some time out from gigging to write his next move. The new single, ‘When It Falls’ was recorded in March 2017 with producer Philip Magee (Kodaline, The Script, The Academic), sees a slightly darker side to his personality. Instrumentally and lyrically channeling his influence from Bobby Womack, the track explores themes of nightmares and loneliness wrapped up in the ever present pop structure. The single is self released on CC’s label FAT BURRITO.

Scoops Team Up With Konmak x Marty

Dublin based band “Scoops” team up with Konmak x Marty on the remix of their single “Stuck on You” and already with no radio play the single is the 5th most Shazamed Irish single and Top 20 on the Shazam chart.

“Scoops” are fresh off a busy few months of touring around Europe with both headline and support slots in great countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Germany and the UK. This is of course on top of finding the time to do their own 7 date tour of their home country of Ireland, further more to this they have been playing shows in many of Ireland’s third level universities (NUI Maynooth, UCD, UCC) and Institutes of Technologies (WIT, CIT, AIT ) this year as well supporting some of Ireland’s biggest acts including Walking on Cars, Hudson Taylor, Hermitage Green, The Academic and more. Yet there are no signs of the lads in “Scoops” wanting to slow down as they take off to Denmark in November for a number of dates and promotional activities following on from their successful summer of playing the main summer festivals in Denmark, this being the country outside of Ireland where the band have arguably had the most success and have played in front of crowds of up to 1000 a night.

Following the Danish tour, they begin their UK & Irish tour supporting Keywest throughout November and December of 2015 in which they will perform multiple sold out shows in both London and Dublin, as well as further dates up and down the UK and Ireland. Their debut EP was released to the charts in November going straight in at Number 2 in the iTunes Album charts right behind Adele, 2016 is set to be “Scoops” year both in Ireland and internationally and with the lads attitude to working hard and the guidance they have from people within the industry who is to say there is anything stopping them!

Scoops team up with Konmak and Marty Guilfoyle who have had tracks supported by the biggest DJs in the world (Joe Stone, Mike Williams, Don Diablo, Timmy Trumpet, Dannic,Tigerlily, AK9, John Gibbons, Bakermat, Jewelz & Sparks & more) all of whom played Konmak and Marty’s tracks in their sets. As well as producing and playing , Marty has a mixshow on Spin 1038 and Spin South West called House Party. Every week the freshest tracks from the biggest names are sent in and a mix is combined of the best and most relevant to the Spin audience. Both shows attract thousands of live listeners and further listeners online on Soundcloud.

Che Horgan Releases Debut Album

“Che Horgan” a Cork songwriter, has independently released his debut album “When The Rivers Rise Again”.

Horgan, whose songs have previously graced releases by The Wall St Thieves and The Rivets, has refined his own engaging sound and style to produce a collection of nine songs of wide ranging stylistic and lyrical ambitions and an essential listen for lovers of good music. The songs are imbued with the influences of such luminaries as ELO, Lennon/McCartney, Harry Nillson and Clifford T Ward, but the highly individual approach which runs through track after track transcends any influence to reveal a uniquely personal vision and sound.

Images of rivers and sea permeate the album as Horgan navigates the unchartered waters of new and old relationships. There is also a vein of mortality recocurring, with lyrics like “give me rain to wash away the pain of life” and “there’s no hope for you, if you got no hope at all“.

The album was recorded over a 12 month period by producer Christian Best at Monique Studios throughout 2016/2017. The opening track “Give Me Wind I’ll Give You Miles” was inspired by legendary sailor Bernard Moitessier and his yacht “Joshua”. With backing provided by musicians of the calibre of guitarist, Alan Comerford (O Emperor), trumpeter, Dylan Howe and the drumming of Christian Best, the album, ably abetted by a competent crew, whose clear water harmonies and open air melodies bring the listener on a journey not unlike the voyages celebrated in the lyrics. The track “If You Got No Hope At All’ is the standout song but in truth, it’s difficult to pick highlights from an album that needs to be enjoyed at a single sitting like a balmy sail into the sunset.

CISAC President Jean-Michel Jarre speaks at UNESCO, calling for global legislation to ensure digital platforms pay creators fairly

Legislation at an international level is needed to ensure a fair digital market for creators. This was the message delivered by electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre, who is also President of global creators’ organisation CISAC.

The statement was delivered at an event on “Fairly remunerating creators in the digital environment”, held at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris. For a commentary based on Jean-Michel Jarre’s UNESCO comments, see here.

Jarre supported the copyright proposal put forward by the European Commission in September 2016 and currently under discussion in the European Parliament. He welcomed the engagement of UNESCO in the global debate on the issue, and highlighted the need for urgent changes to the framework protecting creators in the digital market.

“For the first time in two decades, the music industry is growing again. This is good news. Yet creators are still not seeing a fair return for their work and the main reason for that is the problem known as the transfer of value”.

See here for further information on the UNESCO conference.

Jerry Fish to Release New Single “Blue”

Jerry Fish, producer, songwriter and showman extraordinaire, returns with a new single “Blue” on June 30, 2017. Moved by the passing of his friend and band-mate, Martin Murphy in January of this year, the drummer with whom he first rose to fame in An Emotional Fish. “The lyrics of the song have always touched me, and stand out as true now as they did the day I wrote them. “Blue” is a tribute to Martin, the band, and the music we made together” Jerry always seeking to innovate, reimagines “Blue” with a beautiful new string arrangement by pianist Cian Boylan and also features a mesmerising vocal contribution from May Kay (Fight Like Apes) and now co-presenter of the TV Series Other Voices.

Jerry Fish is one of Ireland’s most enigmatic and entertaining performers, a ringmaster of exceptional renown, curator of the circus that is his very own stage; “The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow” at the country’s biggest music and contemporary arts festival The Electric Picnic. A Glastonbury regular Jerry describes the Music / Arts festival as “the last bastion of community”.  It is for this “community” Jerry will perform a reflection of his own life stories growing up in a London-Irish milieu on the banks of the Thames entitled “Misery Hill – The Songs & Tall Tales of Jerry Fish – Part One” at this year’s Dublin Fringe Festival.

Throughout the 1990’s Jerry Fish was the creative force of the alternative rock band An Emotional Fish. Since then Jerry has changed his skin many times and is recognised as a constantly evolving artist who has always favoured innovation over orthodoxy. Now in a mood that could be styled reflective revolution, Jerry with “Blue” is recapturing some of his beloved music that is no longer available to fans of The Fish.

“Blue” is scheduled for release on Friday June 30th 2017 | www.jerry-fish.com

Tour Dates:

Thu June 15 – The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow Live at Leopardstown
Fri June 30 – The Jerry Fish Electric Sideshow –  Ballymaloe Malt & Music Festival
Sat Aug 19 – Jerry Fish – Groove Festival, Kilruddery House, Bray, Co. Wicklow

Crash Ensemble Release ‘Ghosts’ on Bedroom Community

It started when Crash Ensemble commissioned Icelandic composer and Bedroom Community founder Valgeir Sigurðsson to write a work for them for an upcoming concert on Nordic composers. The result was the eerily evocative ‘Ghosts’ and a relationship was born and grown.

This, alongside the cultural links founded by The Iceland Ireland Project is just one small example of many about how these two islands have become closer and closer in terms of a musical and cultural communication and dialogue.

This relationship has grown since that initial commission, with the group recording an album of works for the label in Dublin which will be released on 23rd June. In addition to this, the ensemble joined the rest of Bedroom Community’s roster for their 10 year anniversary concert at Harpa, Reykjavík in November 2016 as part of the Iceland Airwaves festival.

In recent times, Crash Ensemble founder Donnacha Dennehy has spent time working from Bedroom Community’s Greenhouse studio, writing and recording a new album for violist Nadia Sirota.

Crash Ensemble have commissioned videos for Ghosts by Irish filmmakers Oonagh Kearney, Laura Sheehan and Jack Phelan.

Crash Ensemble has already cemented its place at the center of Irish contemporary music in the early 21st century. ‘Ghosts’ simply confirms the band’s importance. The playing is confident and incisive – as it would have to be to negotiate these four works, each of which provides both rhythmic and textural challenges. Nico Muhly’s “Drones, Variations, Ornaments” unfolds gradually, accumulating restless energy until it sails along on the kinetic rhythms of American post-minimalism. A striking coda reveals the chamber orchestra lurking beneath the brash new music ensemble.

Valgeir Sigurdsson also offers two ways of looking at the ensemble. The title track, Ghosts, features a dark, moody texture that reflects Sigurdsson’s interest in electroacoustic sounds. Past Tundra is such a marvel of steady, pulsing, but cleverly syncopated rhythm that it may be easy to miss the poignant harmonies that characterize most of the work until its buoyant finale.

Ghosts Track listing
1. Drones, Variations, Ornaments – Nico Muhly
2. Ghosts – Valgeir Sigurðsson
3. Past Tundra – Valgeir Sigurðsson
4. As An Nós – Donnacha Dennehy
