SomeRiseSomeFall Ensemble Release “Some Climb”

SomeRiseSomeFall – the talent-laden quintet comprised of Ger Wolfe, Annette Buckley, Hank Wedel, Martin Leahy & Edel Sullivan celebrate the release of their Grateful-Dead-inspired album “Some Climb”, this summer.

Described as ‘music for the human condition’, this album offers the superb rendering of rare Americana gems from the canon of the Grateful Dead and artists who influenced them – including Allen Toussaint, Greg Trooper, Rev. Gary Davis and Jorma Kaukonen, to name a few. The talents of Wolfe, Buckley, Wedel, Leahy & Sullivan give a delicious new voice to these ‘lost songs for lost souls.’

The SomeRiseSomeFall ensemble is an unique musical venture, based on the vision of Cork-based music lover Michael Fitzgerald. The project aims to reach out with indigenous musical talent to highlight positive initiatives in two key areas – mental health awareness & support, and social and community programmes to improve the daily lives of those stuck in the limbo existence of the Direct Provision system.

SOME CLIMB is available now from www.somerisesomefall.com and for download from iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and all other music sites.

June IMRO First Cuts Showcase at Abner Brown’s with Craig Gallagher and Zapho

Craig Gallagher and ZaPho have just been announced to perform at the next IMRO First Cuts Showcase at Abner Brown’s. The June edition of the monthly showcase, will take place on Thursday 15th June at 8.00pm. Admission is FREE but due to limited capacity tickets are limited to two per person and booking is essential: email events@nullimro.ie

IMRO First Cuts Showcases at Abner Brown’s feature the best up and coming as well as established Irish acts. In the intimate setting performers are given the opportunity to debut new tracks along with their current material. Performance highlights and interviews with all acts who perform are later streamed online at www.IMRO.ie and across IMRO’s social media channels. To date, showcases have featured the likes of Marc O’Reilly, Ailbhe Reddy, Mark Geary, Farah Elle and Bronagh Gallagher.

Dubliner Craig Gallagher started his career sing in the pubs of Temple Bar alongside his childhood best friend Gavin James. They both played as a duo and Craig has continued to support Gavin on all his tours across Ireland and Europe including the Sold Out show at Marquee in Cork and Dublin’s 3Arena. The response to Craig on these tours has been incredible and he recently released a four track EP that went No. 1 on iTunes in Ireland on release and he has reached over 1 Million streams on Spotify. Now Craig is selling out his own tours across Ireland and Europe including Whelan’s in Dublin and the legendary Paradiso in Amsterdam to name but a few! Craig was also selected to perform on Other Voices last December and followed this with a headline tour of Ireland in early 2017 as well as supporting Picture This in a sold out Olympia Theatre.

ZaPho is difficult to describe, but for all the right reasons. Experimenting with different genres, she has developed a heady blend of indie lyricism and synth based modern drum-and-bass that, so far, defies definition. The resulting tracks range from melodic, harmony-layered pop to weightier, urban-inspired breakdowns, all knitted together with a distinctive vocal performance. Having completed her first Irish tour, supporting Cathy Davey last October, ZaPho has been lying low writing and recording her debut album with a single and video release due shortly. She’ll be blitzing the Dublin music scene and festival circuit with an ever-evolving, often hair-raising performance. Watch this space.

Abner Brown’s is not only the coolest barbershop in town, it’s also one of Dublin’s most unique venues. The unlikely Rathmines venue has already seen performances from hundreds of acts such as Ash, Gavin Glass, Duke Special, David Geraghty (of Bell X1 fame), The Young Folk, Molly Sterling, Mundy, The Hot Sprockets and many more. REM’s Michael Stipe has even paid a visit.

Eleanor McEvoy Appointed New Chairperson of IMRO

The Board of The Irish Music Rights Organisation CLG (IMRO) is pleased to announce that the renowned singer/songwriter Eleanor McEvoy has been appointed to the position of Chairperson of IMRO. McEvoy replaces composer and saxophonist Keith Donald, who has held the position since 2008.

Eleanor McEvoy achieved star status in Ireland in 1992 when her song “A Woman’s Heart” inspired the title for, and appeared on, the A Woman’s Heart anthology album. It has since gone on to become the best-selling album in Irish history.

On her appointment Eleanor has commented, “It’s a great honour and privilege to be elected as Chairperson of IMRO. Over the last number of years, technological changes have seen some wonderful opportunities for music creators, but sadly the threat to copyright has never been more severe. This is, without a doubt, one of the most challenging times in our industry, but I am looking forward to working closely with our board, CEO Victor Finn and management team to face the challenges that lie ahead and to ensure that the use of our member’s works are fairly compensated.”

Eleanor graduated from Trinity College Dublin with an honours degree in music and was accepted to the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland as a violinist. She worked with the symphony for five years before she finally took the plunge and left the classical world behind to concentrate on her real passion—songwriting. She released her eponymous debut on Geffen records followed with tours in the USA, Europe and the Far East. She moved to Columbia Records in New York for her second album “What’s Following Me?” “Precious Little”, the first single, was a top ten radio hit in the US.

Since then, Eleanor has gone on to become an artist and performer known throughout the world. Her critically acclaimed canon of work spans thirteen albums, fifty singles, and appearances on numerous compilation albums. She has also had numerous cover versions of her songs by performers such as Emmylou Harris, Mary Black, Phil Coulter, Mary Coughlan, Bella Hardy, (BBC folk singer of the year) Eliza Carthy, Derek Ryan and Jack L Her songs have been used in many TV and film soundracks including “All I Have” which featured in the HBO cult series “Six Feet Under.”, “A Glass Unkissed” which was featured in ABC’s “Clueless” and “Whisper A Prayer to the Moon” which was featured in the Pearce Brosnan film “The Nephew”

In 2016, Eleanor was appointed to the board of the National Concert Hall.

Her latest album “NAKED MUSIC”, released in February 2016, is a collaboration with British painter Chris Gollon. It was launched in Gallery Different in London, where “Naked Music – The Exhibition” ran for three weeks, featuring twenty five Gollon paintings inspired by the songs on Naked Music. The exhibition began the “Naked Live…” tour which ran throughout 2016 and 2017 with shows in Ireland, England, Wales, Spain, Germany, Australia, USA and Scotland. In September 2016 Eleanor put out her first ever songbook “Naked Music – The Songbook”. Published by Hot Press

This led to a new collaboration “GIMME SOME WINE” which featured 23 new Gollon paintings all on the theme of Eleanor’s song of the same name. This exhibition opened in Monmouth in Wales in April 2017 and ran for eight weeks. This was accompanied by a second UK tour in May 2017

Her new album “The Thomas Moore Project” will be released in August 2017 and features 21st century adaptations of the songs of the 18th/19th century Irish poet.

IMRO is governed by a Board of Directors comprising 15 non-executive directors.
