IMRO Hosts Monthly Songwriting Workshops

IMRO is continues its collaborative initiative with The Songwriting Collective. The February Workshop takes place on Thursday 19th of April from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm at IMRO HQ, Copyright House, Dublin 2.  This will be followed by a presentation of co-writes and other self-penned songs in the Wellington Pub on Lower Baggot Street.

Each workshop provides an opportunity to showcase songs you have written, to discuss/explore the craft of songwriting, to co-write and to receive detailed feedback about your compositions. In addition, from time to time we have input from relevant specialists on topics of interest. Ideally, you should bring along your musical instrument but it is not essential.

The workshops are facilitated by Tony Bardon (tonybardon.com) and Danai Kelleher, both of whom have extensive experience of running workshops in Ireland and in Europe as a result of their involvement with EU-funded music projects.

TSC uses Meetup.com for communication purposes so if you are interested please sign up at https://www.meetup.com/The-Songwriting-Collective/

All are welcome.

Vernon Jane Release Video for ‘Fragile’

Vernon Jane have just released the new video for their latest single ‘Fragile’.

‘Fragile’ explores the darker side of human nature. The video captures the constant battle between keeping yourself together, or letting yourself truly fall apart. The water in the video represents the feeling of suffocating under your own expectations. We tell ourselves we have to be stronger. We have to get better, and stay better. We forget to tell ourselves to be our own authentic self. To find strength in vulnerability and fragility. We push ourselves until we break. This video represents a breaking point.

Vernon Jane are a Jazz Punk band from Dublin. The intensity, creativity and hard work Vernon Jane put in behind the scenes has led to the band moving from strength to strength over the last 4 years. Highlights include a sold out show in the Opium Rooms in 2016, a sold out show in Whelans in 2017, and a viral video for their controversial single ‘Fuck Me’. 2018 has led to the signing of a worldwide distribution deal with Irish company AMS Records, and a Chinese distribution deal with Pocket Records. Vernon Jane hold a valued reputation for raucous live shows including sets at Electric Picnic, Body & Soul, Liverpool Sound City, and a headline slot at Knockanstockan. With over 150,000 listens on Spotify, and with multiple festival slots confirmed this summer, Vernon Jane are delighted to start the year off with their latest release ‘Fragile’.

Heroes In Hiding Announce New Single Ahead of Album Release

Dublin 4-piece Heroes in Hiding, an alternative rock band with a vibrant touch of electronics,  will release their anticipated album ‘ACTOR’ on Friday 25 May.

‘I Live For You’ is the first single taken from their debut full-length LP and is available for download from Friday 13 April 2018.

Speaking about ‘I Live For You’, Heroes in Hiding say: “It’s a love song addressed to the narrator’s online version of themself. It examines the phenomenon of social media, and questions the authenticity of a person’s online persona as opposed to their day to day selves. Sonically it uses synthesizers to evoke the false nature of social media and samples camera noises to give the listener a sense of its narcissistic core. Influence was taken from the works of Arcade Fire, Talking Heads and David Bowie”.

Heroes in Hiding’s ever-evolving, captivating sound and unique live performance is not to be missed. The band have announced an experiential and unique audiovisual show at the Tivoli Theatre on Friday 25 May to launch their debut album ‘ACTOR’.  Fans will be excited at this announcement having been blown away by their amazing 360-degree audiovisual show to launch their EP ‘Curtains’ in October 2016.

Heroes in Hiding toured Ireland extensively in 2017, playing unforgettable shows at Electric Picnic, Forbidden Fruit, Castlepalooza, Vantastival and to a sold-out crowd in the Olympia Theatre. The band spent most of the tail end of 2017 in the shadows writing their debut album.

Heroes in Hiding are back and will release their first full-length album on 25 May. Written and produced by Heroes in Hiding, the album explores the idea of authenticity and belonging.

The band also have a busy live touring schedule for  2018 ahead with dates in Dublin, Cavan, Carlow an Offaly announced to date. More shows to be announced very soon.

Shane Fallon Unveils Debut Solo Single

Shane (Tex) Fallon’s voice is possibly the best-known instrument within his band, The Shoos, so it’s no surprise the lead vocalist was tempted to investigate releasing a solo track at some point.

Now in 2018, after getting married in 2017 and set to become a dad later this year, Shane figures this is as good time as ever. ‘We’d Have It All’,is the first of a few singles he plans to release under his own name this year, ahead of going back into studio, to record the next album by The Shoos.

The single goes live today, April 5th, and perfect to get our enthusiasm for spring off to a proper start. The accompanying video was filmed by good friend Stephen Mogerly, whose work as a film maker is already well documented and admired.

‘We’d Have It All’ was inspired by Shane’s love of Motown together with his admiration for Lenny Kravitz’s music.

As a band, The Shoos has impressed many industry heavy weights through the years. This admiration was cemented by many of these inviting the band to guest on their live shows, including One Republic, Maroon 5, Life House & Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters). Indeed, on the release of the band’s last long play, 2016’s self-titled The Shoos, the band was asked to guest with Jeff Lynne at his 3Arena show in Dublin, just a few weeks later. This guest slot was quickly followed by an invitation directly from Jeff Lynne and his management to play his hometown show at Birmingham Arena later the same summer.

Shane packs ‘We’d Have It All’ with the similar energy he gives to all his records and live performances.

Lisa Canny Celebrates Strength of Women with New Video

Having amassed over two million streams online, sold out shows across the UK and US and co-written with a host of artists including Kaiser Chiefs, Melissa Etheridge and Akon, Lisa Canny is set to release her debut E.P. titled ‘Freedom’ on Friday 18 May. Her awe-inducing and highly innovative performance style cannot be faulted and mirrors perfectly her organic and captivating song style. The release of ‘Freedom’ stands as a huge statement of intent for Lisa, and one that’s not to be ignored.

Lisa Canny, a Mayo native living in the UK, today releases the video for her debut single ‘Freedom’ taken from her upcoming E.P. of the same name.

“This video will move you!  It is a celebration of the strength of women!  Featuring an all female cast and directed by a Limerick’s Rachel McGill the ‘Freedom’ music video is all about female empowerment, particularly for the Irish woman!  It follows 3x different stories of struggle and triumph, both past and present: the female freedom fighters, the suffragettes and a victim of domestic violence.  Intertwined with scenes of contemporary and Irish dancing we are introduced to Aoife – our representation of a young woman growing up in Ireland today.  Seeing each of the 3x stories move from struggle to triumph around her, Aoife is also inspired to stand up and fight for what she wants and what she believes in – to find her own voice amidst the sometimes deafening noise of society!”

Speaking about the video, Lisa Canny said: “With all that is going on at the moment I think we need to take a moment to celebrate being a woman in Ireland today!  Whether it’s Repeal the 8th, The Fairplé campaign, picketing in support of other women, or something as small and personal as being called a “disgrace to the tradition” for putting a traditional Irish reel into a pop song by an old man from Co. Clare, we are constantly on the battle field!  Regardless of what side you are on – We are fighters!!  & I am proud to be made of that stuff!  This video is to help us take a moment to appreciate how far we have come and just how much change we can make if we put our minds to it!   We are strong, beautiful, talented, humble, hospitable, educated, confident, supportive, sexy, classy women, descendent of the very same.  Let’s raise a pink gin to that and remind ourselves that we are BADASS!  We can, and we will!  Watch us!!!

Lisa Canny has travelled the world and worked with a plethora of highly regarded names in the industry and was dubbed “Ireland’s next big female artist” by Miles Copeland of The Police. Heavily involved in traditional Irish music, Canny is the seven-time All Ireland Champion on harp and banjo. She was also named UK Future Music Songwriting Winner 2016, placed in the top ten of “Irish acts you don’t want to miss” by BBC America, has appeared on two PBS Specials, the Late Late Show, shared the stage with the likes of Gavin James, Lisa Hannigan and The Coronas.

Born and bred in County Mayo, Ireland, Lisa Canny is a notably talented musician who creates expertly crafted modern traditional Irish music that’s distinctive, upbeat and effortlessly entertaining. Best known for her incredible covers, sold out live performances and her reputation for driving, propulsive and heartfelt delivery, Lisa’s mastering of technique and tradition is nothing short of astounding. Gifted with empowering confidence and a charming sense of honesty, the most exciting and consummate stage of Canny’s career is now pouring vehemently over the horizon.
