The Coronas Release ‘Find The Water’

The Coronas release their new single ‘Find The Water’ on 24thMay, the first single to be taken from their upcoming album which they are currently recording. The album, the sixth from the band, is being produced by industry legend Rob Kirwan (Hozier, PJ Harvey, U2, Depeche Mode) and is due to be released in spring 2020.

Musically, ‘Find the Water’ is unlike anything we’ve done before,” says lead singer Danny O’Reilly. “Melodically, the vocal delivery, even the arrangement is unusual for us – but yet it was one of those songs where we were all on the same page right from the start and it came together very quickly, which is always a good sign. The song is about self-improvement, both personally and on the band’s journey. A reminder to myself to appreciate what I’ve got and to convince myself that I can write a decent song or be a good friend or be a better person or whatever it may be.”

The last two summers have seen The Coronas play some of their biggest shows in their hometown, Dublin, including a sold out 3Arena and playing to 15,000 fans at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. The band were amazed with how many fans travelled to these gigs from all over the country, so this year they decided it’s their turn to do the travelling and they’re taking the show on the road in the form of ‘The Long Way Home Festival’.

Each festival show will have support from some of The Coronas’ favourite up-and-coming acts followed by a full Coronas show in which they’ll showcase some songs from the new album as well as their beloved back catalogue.

As much we love touring abroad, theres a special place in our hearts for Irish audiences and the we’re so excited to bring The Long Way Home festival around the country this summer.

Naoise Roo Shares First Taste of New EP

Naoise Roo has just released her brand new single ‘Black Hole’ from upcoming EP ‘Sick Girlfriend’.

Fully formed from the outset Naoise Roo has left audiences and critics awestruck. On ‘Lilith’ we find a highly accomplished and enthralling insight into the emotional and musical range of the emerging songwriter,  the same which can be said about her recently announced debut EP ‘Sick Girlfriend’ – a four-track exploration of themes surrounding depression, the challenges of the music industry and the oppressive stereotypes that burden women experiencing mental illness.

Naoise Roo, as both a songwriter and a performer, is undeniably a powerful force. Since 2015 Roo has seen her audience grow and grow with a swath of electrifying live shows and the release of her debut album ‘Lilith’ which was met with faultless critical acclaim.

“‘Black Hole’ was written about an inner emptiness and trying to seek happiness in the wrong places. Sometimes relationships can become band aids for parts of ourselves we haven’t been able to heal. We fixate on them and lose ourselves in the process. This song was written about a time in my life when I did that. Sometimes it’s hard to come to terms with the fact that some things cannot be fixed and some things cannot fix you.”- Naoise Roo

Accompanying Roo on this Super Massive imploding musical journey are musicians talented in their own right – namely:
Daniel Fox (Girl Band), Rian Trench (Solar Bears), Karl Tobin, and the incredible producer: Liam Mulvaney (produced Girl Band).

Sorcha Richardson Shares ‘Don’t Talk About It’

Irish singer-songwriter Sorcha Richardson has been cultivating a cult fanbase for several years. Songs such as ‘Ruin Your Night’, ‘Petrol Station’ and ‘Can’t We Pretend’ are evocative vignettes of a moment in time which find the poetry in introspection, with a tangible nod to key influences such as Sharon Van Etten, Arcade Fire, Phoebe Bridgers and Julia Jacklin. Her latest single ‘Don’t Talk About It’ is out today.

Exuding passion and tender beauty in equal measure, her narrative songwriting connects with people who have shared similar tangled emotions – as evidenced by 22 million streams at Spotify alone.

It’s the hidden meaning in mundane moments,” she summarises. “Days that look like any other day and yet somehow you have this feeling that it’s one you’ll remember forever.

Richardson isn’t afraid to dig into her own psyche, as demonstrated on ‘Don’t Talk About It’. A blur of spiky garage-rock, its energy masks a deeper meaning.

It’s about avoiding conflict and being too scared to admit to yourself that you’re unhappy in a situation, because it feels easier to turn a blind eye to it than to have to deal with it head on,” she notes. “It’s something I used to do all the time. The song’s also very cathartic, like a victory lap for when you do learn to face your demons.”

It’s been a long road to reach this moment. Richardson left home for Brooklyn as a teenager to study creative writing. She’d assumed her background as a drummer would lead to her playing in a college band, but instead she ended up recording lo-fi demos in her dorm. Picking up traction on SoundCloud gave her the confidence that she could sing, while her studies sharpened her lyrical focus.

Her sound grew richer and more nuanced from 2015’s ‘Petrol Station’ but the idea of making an album didn’t emerge until a few years later. Having written a number of songs at her apartment in Brooklyn, Richardson fleshed out some initial demos with producer Doug Schadt in New York which resulted in early versions of what will eventually become her debut album.

Moving back to Dublin inspired her to take stock of where she was. A new rush of ideas soon followed, with Richardson writing on the piano in her parents’ kitchen. An impromptu session with All Tvvins’ Conor Adams yielded ‘No-One Is Any Fun’, which features on their album ‘Just To Exist’.

Touring in Ireland resulted in the realisation that “the songs that are the most fun to play are the ones that feel most like a band”. Those live elements are also important within every track, regardless of how big or small the arrangement was.

As her songs look back, it’s fitting that this album represents Sorcha Richardson’s future. “Releasing singles was fun because I felt a lot of freedom move around creatively. But I’m excited to present a more 360 version of what I have in my head. It lets me tell a more complete story.”

Sean Fox Announces June Release for Single

Sean Fox has being gigging around the country as a solo performer and with his band Small Town Crisis for over four years.

Although he is just 18 and sitting his Leaving Cert in June he has already performed at the Rose of Tralee, and sang in front of President Mary McAleese.

Sean’s music has featured on East Coast FM ,Dublin City FM , Phoenix  and KCLR FM .

An extremely talented guitarist and vocalist, Sean has a passion for songwriting . At 13 years of age he was successful in an application to Music Generation to have one of his songs ‘Burning In Fire’ recorded on the John Lennon Bus.

Sean has amassed a large repertoire of songs some of which don’t suit the style of the band . He is now in the process of recording his first solo album.

Described by Roddie Cleere from KCLR FM as, “as good an introduction to a musician I have ever heard.”

“Sean Fox’s new single ‘Obscene’ is a brilliant combination of indie Folk Rock transcendence and heavy dance floor anthem. The 18 year old multi-instrumentalist delivers a raw vocal performance, weaving between grit and falsetto, and a catchy chorus over-top high intensity dance-able drums. ‘Obscene’ expands and unfolds into a beautiful guitar solo mid-song adding to the amalgamation of genres already present in the production. Sean Fox’s talent is well beyond his years ‘Obscene’s’ emotional depth comes across with authenticity superseding age, a track encompassing everything needed for a true connection: dance heavy, catchy, inventive, emotional truth and memorability. As the second single from his upcoming solo album Sean Fox has got listeners eager to hear what else he is capable of“.  -Myriadmuzik.com

My Tribe Your Tribe Reveal Video and Live Date

My Tribe Your Tribe aka Laois musician George Mercer’s new video and single ‘Imposter’ touch on the subject of Imposter Syndrome. It is one of many tracks from Mercer’s debut album ‘I Learn A Lot From You’, a 10 track DIY album which frequently returns to the concept of identity and experience with loss of the self and depersonalisation.

The album was written, produced and mixed by George, (with some help from longterm MTYT drummer Tod Doyle) over a two year period at a family cottage in Laois after relocating from Dublin to his hometown in Portarlington, Laois.

Speaking on the recording process, George explains “After moving home, I sort of trapped myself in a rabbit hole or mental-rut and convinced myself that the only way to dig out was to hide away and do the album without any outside influence. I had started to falsely believe that music was all I was capable of doing anymore… Taking time out to work solely on the album gave me freedom to let technicolour flourish and also to explore the darker shades more fully too. Though half way through I realised I had somewhat over-romanticised the DIY recording aesthetic, it gave me the opportunity to dig more deeply into production ideas, retro synths and multilayered sounds.

Though the album was a solo project of mine, I’ve grown to learn that MTYT in itself is almost its own separate entity with a set vision that I try to feed and nurture.

‘I Learn A Lot From You’ the debut album from My Tribe Your Tribe is released May 24th and is available to pre-order or iTunes or pre-save on Spotify now.

My Tribe Your Tribe will launch their album from The Grand Social in Dublin on June 14th with a co-headliner with Good Time Villians in a double album launch. Support is from Hunting Hall. Tickets are on sale now.

October Fires to Release ‘Creeping In’

‘Creeping In’ is the latest single by October Fires taken from their debut EP ‘Everybody Knows’. Recorded with experienced producer and engineer Gavin Glass, ‘Creeping In’ is a delicately personal song and full of emotion. The band have varied the pallet to create a different vibe to the previous singles released, yet comforting to know, it is still very much within the October Fires family.

The single follows on from ‘Screaming Red’ which received airplay on RTE2XM, Radio Nova, WLRFM, Galway Bay FM, KCLRFM, 8 Radio and Wired FM.

October Fires are a four-piece group consisting of Carol Somers on piano, vocals and percussion, Lisa Connolly on piano, vocals and percussion, Eoghan O’Neill on bass and Eric Somers on guitar.

Carol and Lisa met while studying music in Maynooth University. They’ve been inseparable ever since after finding an innate ability to harmonise together, even being able to predict what the other is about to do! This bond has become the central feature of the band.

Their style is difficult to pin down but the band describe their music as haunting, harmonic, dark pop. They take influences from choral music, classical, pop, soul, funk, folk, rock and fuse them together to create their unique sound.

The band have been likened to a Radiohead meets Tori Amos by Hot Press Magazine, a blend of Sneaker Pimps and Portishead by REMY and Lisa Hannigan-esque by Nialler 9. They featured in Hot Press both online and in the Autumn Magazine edition.

The band performed live on RTE 1’s ‘Arena’ with Séan Rocks along with award winning DJ, Roddy Cleere, on KCLR FM last November. They have played a number of gigs in 2018, sharing the bill with artists including Gavin Glass, Sibéal, Delush, Ross Breen, The Bonnymen and Ger Cunningham, together with a few sold out headline performances. They will be playing at this years Knockanstockan Festival in July.

Bitch Falcon to Release ‘Panther’ This Week

Reckless Records proudly presents the latest studio recording from Bitch Falcon ‘Panther’, streaming from May 24th. Bitch Falcon will showcase ‘Panther’ at The Great Escape, ANTIfest, Camden Rocks Festival, Y Not Fest and many other recognised music festivals this summer.

‘Panther’ is about being blind in the present, letting everything around you move on as you sit dwelling in numbness. It’s a realisation that you’re stuck in between your emotions and physical reactions come first before really understanding how you feel “Only the tears spilled show me what I want”.” – vocalist, Lizzie

Four years on from an initial explosive emergence, the Dublin-based three-piece haven’t so much discovered their voice as relentlessly refined it. If anything, they relish in sharp declarations, their signature sound always moving forward even when throwing a nod to the past. The aesthetic is raw, even a touch frenzied, yet the chaos is controlled in a ferocious through line that harnesses the strongest elements of rock, grunge, metal, hardcore and melodic electro-pop. Through it all, Bitch Falcon make this busy mix sing in a distinctive, once-heard-not-forgotten voice.

Pulsating tracks like ‘Wolfstooth’, ‘Syncope’, ‘TMJ’ and ‘Clutch’ speak to a band unwilling to sit still and stay quiet. These are songs of punch, grit and verve. Up close and personal, they make an even greater impact as the band’s deserved reputation as one of Ireland’s most engaging live prospects, comes to the fore. In their short time together, the trio have shared the stage with the likes of Fucked Up, Torche, The ZZZ’s, Glen Hansard, No Spill Blood, Pussy Riot and Les Butcherettes.

Bitch Falcon have packed rooms in Toronto, LA and London and toured relentlessly across Europe, the UK and are a massive draw on the Irish festival circuit. After a blazing show at Eurosonic, a sold out mini Easter tour with support from THUMPER, and radio support from BBC Radio 1, Kerrang and Radio x in the UK and beyond with their last single ‘Prime Number’, Bitch Falcon have really built up an appetite for this new offering, ‘Panther’.

TOUR DATES
ANTIfest at Fluor // Amersfoort // Thurs, May 23
Camden Rock Festival // London // Sat, June 1
Y Not Fest // Derbyshire // Sat, July 27

Kobina Shares ‘Four Poems’

22nd May 2019 sees the release of the new E.P. ‘Four Poems’  by electronic artist Kobina (Seán Arthur). The EP itself is a collection of four songs, with four different vocalists based on four poems written by Kobina and shared with the vocalists. Having turned to writing short poems during a period, during which he had decided to stop making music, it was these words that help find a sense of direction.

In the words of the artist, “I wanted to create a dialogue between myself and the vocalists, and to create a common thread between the songs, which allowed them to really feel as though they were coming from the same dimension, despite the range of styles, and timbre.
