Éiríocht – New Music from Ireland

Éiríocht is a radical alternative to traditional celebrations for St. Patrick’s Weekend 2018, presenting a wide-angle panorama of new Irish contemporary and improvised music. With performances curated by Diatribe, Ireland’s foremost record label for new sounds, the festival features many of the leading figures on Ireland’s thriving sonic scene and their UK collaborators.
The 2 nights at the Vortex present ongoing creative partnerships and UK premieres, including the film/voice/quintet setting of T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land – directed by Adrian Dunbar with score by Nick Roth – capturing the extraordinary verve and daring, the tempo and musicality, of Eliot’s great work, as a declaration of a moment in time prefiguring so much of what artistically followed it.
This is a moment in time. Éiríocht is a reminder of the need for, and the value of, an ease in crossing borders – to meet hear and make. If not that, if Brexit continues its crash course, what will artistically follow?
Come to hear. Rage against the seemingly ineluctable shut-down, proclaim and delight in what Irish and UK musicians make together.
