I Heart the Cranberries

July 5, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 11:30 pm

€12

A very special concert at Dolans Pub on the 5th of July is the latest in the well-known “I Heart” series which usually takes place at Whelan’s in Dublin and has paid homage to Bowie and Elliot Smith. “I Heart the Cranberries” could of course only take place in the home city of Cranberries’ frontwoman, the late Dolores O’Riordan.

Emma Langford, organiser of the event, explained that “after her tragic and untimely death I – among many, no doubt – wanted to make sure a tribute happened here in Dolores’ home town, and it had to be done right – no more statues!”.

“I Heart the Cranberries” will take place at Dolans Pub on the Dock Road on the 5th of July as part of Limerick’s Pride Week, in aid of Adapt House and Limerick Mental Health.

Langford has revealed that over twenty artists from all over the country will gather on the night to pay tribute to Dolores O’Riordan and the music of the Cranberries.

I reached out to artists from all over Ireland to make this gig happen. Dolores’ sudden death shook the musical community to the core, so everyone was really eager to be involved”.

Audience members can expect unique renditions of some of the world’s favourite Cranberries songs, with the night culminating in an explosive performance of some of the band’s chart-topping anthems, “brought to you by our brilliant house band fronted by leading female vocalists from Limerick and beyond.”

Darren Moloney, Mr Gay Limerick 2017 and chairperson of Limerick Pride has stated that “this event will be a celebration of diversity, women, the LGBTQ community and Irish music at its very best. Most importantly, we’re raising funds on the night for two incredible local resources; Adapt House support victims of domestic abuse; and Limerick Mental Health are so crucial to everyone in Limerick, let alone members of the LGBTQ community”.

Langford added that she had run the idea for the event by Noel Hogan, and that he was “delighted that it was going ahead – I asked what cause Dolores would have had close to her heart, and he recommended a mental health organisation.

At the moment the gig is taking place upstairs in Dolans, but between people celebrating Pride; lovers of the Cranberries in Ireland and beyond; followers of all the amazing individual artists taking part; and fans of great Irish music in general, I reckon tickets will be like gold-dust and we’re fully expecting to be moved down to the warehouse!

Tickets for this event are set to cost only €12 with all profits going to Adapt House and Limerick Mental Health. Doors on the night open at 8pm, and capacity is limited, so book your tickets as soon as they’re available, and get in early on the night.
