IMRO Essentials of Music Management Seminar

Our Essentials of Music Management course is a one-day course covering the basics of music management. Taught by artist manager and management business consultant Erik Nielsen this course is a great opportunity for those just starting out to those who want a refresher and to hear all the latest developments in the music industry.

We will cover the basics of everything we think you need to know, to help lay the best foundations for your knowledge – looking at royalty income, merchandising, social media and rights. In the afternoon we are also joined by top industry lawyers, accountants and a music insurance broker.

Erik Nielsen is an artist manager and music industry consultant whose Wingnut Music counts Elton John’s Rocket Music, James Blunt, Bryan Ferry, The Hoosiers, and leading digital analysts Music Ally amongst his clients.

During his 11-year tenure with Marillion, he launched their pioneering direct-to-fan business in 1997 that became the basis for modern-day crowdfunding. Erik is also chair of education and former board member of the UK Music Managers Forum, co-author of The Music Management Bible, a Visiting Professor at London Metropolitan University, and is a tutor at BIMM.

Willie Ryan | Music Lawyer

Willie Ryan is a music lawyer and qualified Irish barrister who’s specialises in music and entertainment law. His clients include Hozier, Johnny McDaid, Walking on Cars, Noel Hogan/The Cranberries etc. Primarily an artist lawyer he advises clients on all aspects of the music industry, including management contacts, producer agreements, recording and publishing deals. He is a co-founder of the Music Cork conference, sits on the copyright law review committee at Kings Inns and is a guest speaker and lectures at various third level institutions.

Eileen O’Gorman | Partner | Gleeson McGrath Baldwin Solicitors, Dublin | Corporate & Intellectual Property

Eileen O’Gorman advises on commercial and intellectual property issues relevant to wide and varied business interests both in Ireland and abroad. She is well-known in the entertainment industry in Ireland for her practical and focused advice. Eileen works closely with a range of authors, artists and musicians in relation to all legal elements of their creative pursuits. She works with many start-up businesses providing a comprehensive approach to their business structures and specialist intellectual property needs. Eileen is a registered Irish and European Trade Mark Agent. She is currently the Chair of the Copyright and Entertainment Law Committee of the International Bar Association.

Alan McEvoy | Livewire Business Management (LBM)

With close to 35 years’ experience in the business Alan McEvoy first made a splash when he spent a decade with O.J. Kilkenny & Co in Dublin where he worked on acts such as The Boomtown Rats and U2 but also looked after a string of Irish based acts from Luka Bloom to An Emotional Fish, Hothouse Flowers and Something Happens. Alan also looked after The Cranberries from the time they were signed. In 1995 he moved to Limerick to work in-house for Dolores and her band mates and in 1998 he set up LBM.  LBM has grown over the years and employs over 30 people.  While its HQ is still in Limerick it now has an office in central London as well as a base in France that specializes in European withholding tax matters. LBM looks after all types of artists and companies from those unsigned and independently operated to globally recognised stadium acts as well as publishers, record labels, TV productions companies, authors and comedians. McEvoy is a director of RAAP, the performance royalty collection society, and was recently included in the Music Business Worldwide top 25 (UK) Music Accountants.

David Jermyn | Arachas Corporate Brokers Limited

A founding Director of Arachas Corporate Brokers Limited, David is based in their Dublin office. With more than 30 years experience in the insurance industry, David is responsible for both developments on new commercial and corporate business, along with the broker relationship of their most prestigious clients.
