Mid Term at The Ark

October 28 - November 5

The Ark, in Eustace Street Temple Bar is place where children ages 2-12 can discover and love the arts, exploring theatre, music, literature, art, film, dance and more. This midterm, be part of a myriad of musical adventures – some with a distinctly Halloween-y theme! Supported by IMRO.

First up over the bank holiday weekend, in partnership with the Bram Stoker Festival.

  • Become a dance music producer at the Make your own Deadly Dance Track Workshops
    This mid-term, become a dance music producer in this music technology workshop especially for ages 8+. Part of the Bram Stoker Festival 2017. Make great music using just a computer and your own musical imagination. Learn how to use music technology using a programme called Abelton Live that is used in professional music recording studios. Once you’ve got the hang of the basics there will be a chance to try out making your own dance track, or maybe have a go at more advanced options like remixing or mashing up your favourite tracks. After that the sky is the limit as to what music you can make. Tickets €11/€8, Sat 28 Oct & Thurs 2 Nov, at 10:30am (Ages 8-9) & 2pm (Ages 10-12). Duration: 2.5 hours.
  • Get the whole family involved in a once off pop song singing choir in the Supernatural Pop-Up Choir Family Workshop
    Come along to this fun workshop with families and friends and enjoy learning to sing a number of well-known fun songs together as one big group and turn them into fun new spooky versions with gothic harmonies, strange vocal sounds and crazy other-worldly improvisations thrown in for good measure. Finally (weather permitting), this pop-up choir of deadly singers will invade the outside for a flash mob performance of these new supernatural songs for all to hear. No prior experience needed. Tickets €11/€8 per child. Accompanying grown ups go free. Sun 29 Oct @ 2pm, for ages 7+ and their adults. Duration: 90mins.
  • Take part in Dracula’s Disco in Meeting House Square
    Get in the spooky spirit with Dracula’s own DJ spinning the decks and scratching vinyl for our outdoor family music and dance party. Don’t forget your costumes! Part of the Bram Stoker Festival 2017 and presented in partnership with Temple Bar Cultural Trust . This year we take Dracula’s Disco outside to Meeting House Square where DJ Will Softly will be playing all the latest hits for you to enjoy complete with confetti cannons to inspire some seriously deadly dancing. This fun-packed and energetic DJ set will be perfect for young zombies, ghosts and all music-loving monsters. Come along in costumes of any kind and make up your own graveyard dance moves. More Mid-Term Music workshops

  • Create your own fun and spooky music in a fun Spooky Songs and Sounds Workshop
    Lorna McLaughlin, a member of the band The Henry Girls,  will share with you some really fun and funky ways to create music as a group. By the end of this workshop, you’ll be delighted with what you have made with your voice and musical imagination. If you happen to play an instrument, you can bring that along too. Tickets €11/€8 Friday 3rd November at 11am (Ages 5-7) & 2pm (Ages 8-10) Ages 5-7, 75 mins. Ages 8-10, 90 mins
  • Create your own original pop songs in a Songwriting & Digital Tools Workshop
    Learn how to create your own original pop songs in a lively workshop led by artists from Songschool. Invent your own lyrics and then come up with rhythms and melodies to turn them into a new smash hit. Suitable for any level of musical experience. Tickets €11/€8, Wed 1 Nov, at 11am (Ages 7-9) & 2pm (Ages 10-12). Duration:90 Mins

Finish the mid-term with some aerial dance:

  • See Fidget Feet Take Flight in Strange Feathers
    The Ark is delighted to welcome for the first time Fidget Feet Aerial Dance Theatre with this beautiful show for our youngest audiences (ages 2-7) entitled Strange Feathers. Two birds are hatching into the world. Join them on a journey of discovery, as they hear the sounds of nature, see colours for the first time and learn how to fly. Mixing aerial circus, dance, live music, colourful lighting, and soothing sounds, these friendly birds and their feathers will enthrall the whole family. This is an engaging and humorous interactive, non-verbal show, specifically designed and created for young children. There is a mask-making workshop before the performance and children have an opportunity to meet the three performers after the show and explore their world of feathers and instruments.

Strange Feathers made in Association with Riverbank Arts Centre (Ireland), is a co-production between Fidget Feet (Ireland), Riverbank Arts Centre (Ireland) and the Bird & Bat (Iceland).

Over the past 21 years The Ark, located in the heart of Dublin City has commissioned, presented and developed work especially for children aged 2-12. Although created for this age group the productions and events are also adored by adults and all ages are warmly welcomed.
