Mixing is an essential stage of music production, and is arguably the most important step in ensuring that a song’s artistic statement reaches the listener’s ears. Yet, the art of mixing is often mis-understood due to it’s nature of being both highly technical and creative. The way in which music is recorded has changed in recent times and while many artists continue to record in professional studios, others are self-recording due to the availability of quality home-recording equipment. Mixing is more important today as it ever has been. Mixing ensures that no matter the fashion in which the music has been recorded, it impacts with the correct aesthetic and allows the listener to be enveloped by the song.

This upcoming IMRO seminar will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn from one of the industry’s experts in mixing and music production. The focus will not only be on the technical aspects of mixing but also the artistic and emotional choices one needs to make when balancing various elements of a song. This talk will explore what mixing means from a creative and technical standpoint, demonstrated through a mix session live on the night. Aimed to enlighten and inspire artists, songwriters, producers, bands, the event is suitable for anyone who is involved in the music production chain.
