Rising Star is a new, primetime interactive and innovative singing talent show from ITV – the difference being that viewers at home are the judges and vote in real-time during the performances, via an app.
This means that the public has total control over who progresses through each stage of the competition and who is ultimately crowned as the Rising Star.
HOW THE SHOW WORKS
– Auditions take place in live studio accompanied by a band
When a performance starts, the voting starts – all live, all in real time. Viewers at home can vote yes or no via the app
– The live audition sees the contestant performing in front of a large interactive screen; as viewers at home vote YES for an act we see a selection of their faces appear on the screen
– Rising Star will feature 3 experts (artist / industry experts) that will critique each performance and give their verdict on the outcome. Experts also vote live during the performance.
– If the contestant achieves a total of 70% YES votes the screen rises, and they go through to the next round
PRIZE
The winner will sign a recording contract with a major UK label
THE TALENT
The competition is open to all genres and all styles of music. As a guideline, think of some of the following acts:
Female – Katy Perry, Jessie J, Ellie Goulding, Emeli Sande, Rita Ora, Taylor Swift, Paloma Faith, Ella Eyre, Iggy Azealea, Leona Lewis, Lucy Spraggan
Male – Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Paolo Nutini, John Newman, Tom Odell, Ben Howard, Jason Derulo, Pharrell, Example, Bruno Mars, Robbie Williams
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be aged 16 or over from 31st August 2014
Only acoustic instruments will be allowed in the audition phase, no live bands
Groups may consist of a maximum of six members
All applicants to the show must be permanent legal residents of the UK or Ireland
Acts with representation or that may have signed a record/publishing deal are eligible to apply
THE PROCESS
Acts should email a current photo and a YouTube or Soundcloud link to stephen@nullmcd.ie
From here the ITV team will select a number of acts to come to London for the initial audition process, on a one-to-one basis with producers of the show.
