Music Educators Tune Up for SMEI Conference at MIC 10-11 November 2012

 Following on from the success of its 1st Annual Conference at UCC in 2011, the 2nd annual conference of the Society for Music Education in Ireland will be hosted by the Department of Arts Education and Physical Education and the Department of Music at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick on 10th and 11th November 2012. Internationally acclaimed music educator and researcher, Professor Margaret Barrett who is President of the International Society for Music Education will give the keynote address.

Gwen Moore who is a lecturer in music education at Mary Immaculate College and a committee member of SMEI says, “This conference will bring together a host of national and international musicians, music educators and facilitators and will be of interest to anyone with an interest in music teaching and learning. As well as a variety of paper, poster and workshop presentations, we are also delighted that the event will showcase a suite of performances from local Limerick music education initiatives such as the Limerick Youth Choir, Village Singers Castleconnell, Limerick Jazz Improv, Limerick School of Music and the Learning Hub Limerick”.

As the umbrella body for music education in Ireland, the SMEI provides a forum whereby members can discuss issues of common concern, identify areas of common practice and share information on topics of mutual interest. To register for the event and for further information visit www.smei.ie
