Songwriters In The Round is back for it’s first event of 2015!

February 9, 2015

SongwriterRound_120115_POSTERSongwriters in the Round always promises a great evening of music and this Thursday 12th February it’s back for the first event of 2015.

Beginning in September last year this unique event has seen some incredible songwriters come to Kilkenny to play to an intimate and highly appreciative audience at Hole in the Wall. Hosted by Martin Bridgeman, three songwriters perform ‘In the round’ format sharing their songs and an insight into the story of each song.

This Thursday 12th will see guest songwriters are Carol Keogh, Ryan Thomas and Pete McGowan ‘in the round’.

Carol Keogh will be known to many for her stunning and unique voice and her years with The Plague Monkeys, The Tycho Brahe, Tychonaut, and Automata. She has just released her much anticipated debut solo album ‘Mongrel City’ that marks a milestone in the career of a songwriter and singer better known for her collaborations. She is backed on the recording by her band of musicians ‘The City Fathers’, who provide the rich tapestry into which Keogh’s unique voice and words are woven on the classically recorded album. This is a rescheduled appearance from last November’s event.

Ryan Thomas is a native of Dunnamaggin, Co Kilkenny and recently released his single ‘I Won’t Let Go’. A student of music at BIMM, his influences are wide-ranging, but he name- checks Ed Sheeran, James Morrison and Ryan Tedder as artists whose work he particularly admires. Ryan was the recipient of the 2013 YADA Award and will soon be heading to London to record his debut EP.

Pete MacGowan’s songs are full of raw emotion with insightful and poignant lyrics, tapping deep in the psyche of the lost, the redeemed, and the irredeemable. His songs tell the stories of liars, cheats and lovers, of time lost and time regained, of friendship and love, loss and separation, and all with an honesty and intensity that cuts deep. Pete’s Stop the Clocks EP is inspired by the folk, blues and roots music from Ireland and the UK, and from Europe across the Atlantic to North America.

Tickets are 7 Euro on the door. Doors are 8.30pm with a start time of 9pm and finishing at approximately 11pm.
