Since debuting last year, Cat Turner has won praise for her dark-pop sound. She is crafting her own niche of driving synths and raw vocals, and new single ‘Easier’ is testament to her unique talent. Cat is a producer-singer from Galway, who has honed her sound since starting to produce just over a year ago. In this short time, support has come from tastemakers like Hot Press and Clash Music, and live performances have included Electric Picnic and support slots with fellow Irish ones-to-watch Pillow Queens. Her debut EP ‘Contrast’ also saw national airplay, and drew comparisons to artists such as Grimes and Tove Lo.
The new video for ‘Easier’ exhibits a love-drunk atmosphere as it follows a couple through the ups and downs in their relationship. We are taken from moments of loving affection to full-blown fights, break-up arguments to make-up sex. The subject of falling in love is a confusing one to write about and there is a real sense of honesty with Cat’s lyrics. They is nuanced and exciting, bold but shy, autobiographical and universal; managing to transform the artist’s own story into everyone else’s. Musically, there is an uneasy mood of menace throughout that perfectly matches the subject matter. Staying true to her brand of ‘Goth pop’, ‘Easier’ marks an ever-growing confidence for this exciting young artist.
