Computer Clubhouse Music Studio Launched by Glen Hansard

December 14, 2010

Glen Hansard cut the ribbon on a new music studio at the Computer Clubhouse in Dublin 8 yesterday, as part of their Christmas Showcase. Inspiring local youths, The Frames frontman spent time with Clubhouse members, learning about the projects they have created.

This year the Christmas Showcase theme “Homeless at Christmas” raised awareness of homelessness in Dublin. A 3D backdrop designed by youths to set the scene for the Showcase staged a performance by Hansard and several youths as they raised the roof, getting everyone to join in, with “The Auld Triangle”.
The annual Christmas Showcase allows the Computer Clubhouse to exhibit all the hard work that Clubhouse members put into many projects throughout the year.

This year, the Clubhouse invested in live instruments such as acoustic guitars with foot pedals and an electronic drum kit. They also bought the latest music production software, Ableton Live 8, used by top music industry professionals. The Music Studio was given a state-of-the art upgrade through generous grants from SAP Business Objects corporate social responsibility programme, the South Inner City Drugs Task Force and Dublin City Council’s Community Gain Fund.

Janice Feighery, Manager, of the Computer Clubhouse, said “This type of investment which funded both equipment and programme costs proved hugely successful for us. We would encourage more private companies and state agencies to partner with each other for future funding initiatives to support disadvantaged communities”.
A dynamic music programme runs daily and the newly established Clubhouse Music Crew have been working hard on their first professional commission to produce a number of original music tracks for FIRST LEGO League Challenge, January 2011.

Some of the exciting projects exhibited at yesterday’s showcase included short movies, 3D design of a homeless shelter and live original performances, for the Christmas Showcase, to promote awareness of homelessness.
