Concorde Launch New Recording

October 29, 2010

"Reflections" (NV5835)

"Reflections", the latest recording by contemporary music ensemble, Concorde, has just been released on the Navona label (www.navonarecords.com).

Concorde are joined by the legendary bass clarinet player Harry  Sparnaay in new music by composers from Ireland (Judith Ring, Stephen Gardner and Jane O’Leary), Korea (Si-Hyun Yi) and Mexico (Alejandro Castanos).  All of the works were commissioned by Concorde and represent a vast range of colourful styles and influences, from the swirling melodies of klezmer music to Mongolian camels.  Instruments used include flutes, clarinets, violin, cello, percussion, piano, and accordion with additional elements of Mexican toys and wine glasses as well as beautifully recorded sounds emanating from the instruments themselves woven into a tapestry of electronic sound.

Concorde was founded in 1976 to promote new music on a regular basis. The group made its debut in the American Embassy in Dublin and has since performed widely throughout Ireland and Europe.

The ensemble regularly commission new work from Irish composers and frequently work with international guest soloists. The group has performed at music venues and festivals in the USA, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, England, the Slovak Republic, Romania, Macedonia, Latvia and The Netherlands.

The new recording is now available as an enhanced content CD. Not only is the music to be listened to, but there are scores, photos, programme notes and biographies to be viewed on your computer.  Online purchase available from 26 October 2010.

A Dublin launch will take place on Wednesday December 8 in an exciting new venue for new music.  Details to be announced shortly.
