Craft Of Songwriting initiative launches in Kilkenny
A very special event for music lovers and songwriters kicks off this month in Kilkenny celebrating the craft of songwriting. ‘Songwriters in the Round’ will be an intimate and interactive evening featuring four songwriters performing some of their songs and sharing a little of what went into creating them.
This first event will feature Ian Doyle (The Man Whom), Robert Power, David Donohue, Kairen Waloch (Little Black Wren).
Songwriters in the Round takes place on Thursday 11th September at 8pm at Hole in the Wall and will be hosted by Martin Bridgeman. Entry is 5 Euro on the door.
Wexford-based Ian Doyle’s debut album ‘The Greatest Event’ was described by The Sunday Times as ‘A slick production with accomplished musicians, elaborate scores and scrupulous string arrangements.
Call all the People has the heartfelt passion of an anthem, including melodic bursts of melancholia, while Sing Till There’s No Songs Left, I know your Face, and Over and Under, the current single, strike all the right chords.’ Robert Power, also based in Wexford, was selected by the online music magazine Record of the Day in London for his first musical offering Human, and his recently released full length album 1, along with his heartfelt and gritty live performances, have gained him many more fans and industry interest along the way.
Thomastown-based songwriter, author and screenwriter David Donohue who has released three albums under the name The Floors, has co-written with John Parish (PJ Harvey), Marianne Faithful, Jack L, and played a series of gigs with Luka Bloom called Six Stories and Half a Dozen Songs.
David is soon to release his as yet untitled EP. Kairen Waloch (Little Black Wren) has been writing songs since her days with Muse Motel. She collaborated with The Midnight Union Band for their Oxfam Ireland release ‘Rising Sun’, she is working on a song for the ‘Scent of Barley’ documentary for the Brewery Project and will be releasing an EP this Autumn.
