Dublin City Soul Festival This Weekend

May 25, 2011
The annual feel-good festival, Dublin City Soul Festival is back to bring a splash of sound and colour to the streets, bars, cafes, and public parks across the Capital in celebration of their 5th anniversary from May 26th – 29th. Offering an exciting range of mostly free to attend music, art, food and fun events for people of all ages to enjoy the festival is a fundraiser for children’s charity the ‘Musical Youth Foundation’ which is working to provide every child in Ireland with access to a musical education.

One of the highlights of the festival every year is Rising Stars – a showcase for emerging artists which receives hundreds of submissions from around Ireland and across the globe from countries including; Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belize, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Egypt, England, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Lithuania, Mexico, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Togo and the United States.

Members of the public can influence which Rising Stars will get to perform on the main stage in Merrion Square on Saturday, 28th and Sunday, 29th of May by checking out the event dedicated website www.risingstars.ie where they can listen, download and share their favourite songs with friends. The site also boasts an up to the minute music blog written by a dedicated team of student journalists, delighted to have an outlet to showcase their talent.

Aside from the main stage event in Merrion Square Park, Rising Stars musicians will be performing all over the Capital with the Mercantile Live Music Venue on Dame Street assigned as Event HQ for this year’s Rising Stars.

Festival organiser Chris Maher says;
“The quality of emerging artists across the globe, but particularly in Ireland, never ceases to amaze me. People will be blown away by the quality of the bands and solo artists performing across the city again this year. There’s something for everyone so come out and experience the feeling of the Soul Festival for yourself.”

The festival launched in May 2007, was intended to be a magnet for valuable cultural tourists but also as an event that local people could be proud of. Now in its 5th year, the festival has grown significantly in popularity and now attracts thousands of visitors from around the country as well as from further afield.

In 2010 over 42,000 people attended Soul Festival events, generating in excess of €1 million for the Irish Economy.
