Eoin O’Callaghan Reveals New Project Elma

April 28, 2017

Derry multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and songwriter Eoin O’Callaghan makes music under the monikers Best Boy Grip and as part of Wake America.

However, his brand new project Elma explores a filmic, soundscape-based approach to composition. Its been a seven-month process in which O’Callaghan has exclusively used analog gear – a Revox B77 tape machine, piano, bass, cello and a bunch of synths. The project will also feature samples taken from conversations with a hermit called Dolama who is based in Lima. According to O’Callaghan, “[Dolama] has provided some amazing vocal samples for me and the album is developing into a kind of search for isolation… a realisation that we can step away from the constant barrage of social media…

The lead track ‘Drive’ is the first instalment taken from the project’s forthcoming album release, Flutter Part 1  – which will be released via Amelia Records later this year. Critics have their thumbs up and believe O’Callaghan is hinting at something very special for the full-length album.
