John Fitzgerald Kennedy – The Torch Still Burns Brightly | New Commission By Vincent Kennedy

November 14, 2013

IMRO member Vincent Kennedy will conduct his music “John Fitzgerald Kennedy – The Torch Still Burns Brightly” at a ceremony by the eternal flame on the quay side in New Ross on Friday 22nd November at 17.50pm. The ceremony will be the national commemoration and remembrance for President Kennedy who was assassinated 50 years ago and is timed to take place at the same time as that tragic event in 1963. The music was commissioned bvincent_kennedy_2y New Ross Town council and is the final part of their JFK ceremonies this year.  The performers will be the New Ross and District Pipe Band (current world champions), The Holy Family Confraternity Brass Band and musicians from the southeast and Dublin.

Vincent will conduct the music again in the National Concert Hall on Tuesday 26th November in a 8pm concert with the Rathfarnham Concert Band Society which also features the music of John Williams.

These performances come at a time when it has just been announced that Vincent’s music “The Chronicles of Meath” will be performed at the World Harp Congress in Sydney in July 2014. On that prestigious occasion Vincent will conduct the eight Harpers of the Meath Harp Ensemble led by Dearbhail Finnegan.
