Laura Elizabeth Hughes has announced the release of her brand new single ‘In My Defence’. The song marks an uplifting new direction but still holds that distinctive sound and heart that the songwriter has become known for. Produced by Mark Caplice and mixed/mastered by Cian Sweeney of 1000 Beasts, ‘In My Defence’ is released across all streaming platforms on Friday, 29th March.
Last summer, after a four-year hiatus, Laura Elizabeth Hughes re-introduced herself to the world with her E.P., ‘Ceremony’. The record captured a journey from darkness to light and showcased the vocal and writing talent of an artist fast establishing herself as a rising talent among a fresh new group of emerging Irish songwriters.
On the back of this E.P. the remainder of the year saw live appearances at Electric Picnic, Indiependence and the inaugural We’ve Only Just Begun festival, the sharing of a stage with Oscar nominated film director Lenny Abrahamson (Room, Frank, Adam & Paul) and Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars, Brooklyn, About Time) and counting a new fan in Grammy nominated R&B star, Joss Stone. There was also the experience of being part of the song-writing team for Ireland’s Eurovision entry, the first time in five years the country qualified for the live finals.
The New Year has already been one of firsts for the singer as she played her first headline show across the Atlantic in New York City and will follow that next month with another debut when she plays a special intimate show for Sofar Sounds in London.
‘In My Defence’ is released across all streaming platforms on Friday, 29th March.
