Audio for Film Summer School 2013

Audio for Film CourseA ten-day summer school being run this July (15th-26th) will introduce attendees to the process of audio production and post-production for film. The course, run by DCU lecturer Tony Doyle, will be practice based and includes lectures on understanding the role of sound and music in film. The course project will involve replacing the soundtrack for a film clip excerpt; this will include recording dialogue in a studio and using library sounds for foley, FX and music. Participants will be assigned to work in small groups.

This course will introduce:

  • Role of sound in film
  • Function of music in film
  • Pro Tools, (emphasis on film usage)
  • Operation of a mixing console
  • Recording an ADR Session
  • Post Production (Dialogue, Foley, FX, Music)
  • Mixing/Mastering a soundtrack

Requirements:

The course is open to anyone with an interest in audio for film and assumes no prior experience. Familiarity with Mac OSX and the use of a DAW (Digitial Audio Workstation) would be beneficial but not a necessity.

Course Fee: €350

Includes:

  • Lectures, group and individual tutorials
  • Access to facilities (Pro Tools Mac lab, recording studio, library of sounds)
  • DVD of finished project
  • Certificate of completion
