IMRO Number 1 award for Mick Flannery

Mick Flannery Mick Flannerywas invited into the IMRO offices last week to receive his IMRO Number 1 award in recognition of his latest album, “By The Rule”, reaching the top spot in the Irish Album Charts in May.

After spending the month of May touring extensively around Ireland as well as having just supported Elbow at their recent Kilmainham gig, Mick will be performing in the intimate, breathtaking location of the Mitchelstown Caves with support from The Young Folk on July 20th.

Villagers Pick Up IMRO No.1 Award for {Awayland}

Conor from Villagers popped into IMRO today to pick up an IMRO No.1 Award in recognition of their album, {Awayland}, reaching the top spot in the Irish album charts earlier this year.

It’s been a busy year for Villagers since {Awayland} was released back in January, with tours throughout the UK, Europe, North America and Japan, as well as a nomination for the Mercury Prize in between.

Now Villagers are home for some end of year gigs throughout Ireland over the next couple of weeks.

The IMRO No.1 Award was established to recognise the achievement of artists reaching the number 1 spot in the Irish Album and Independent Album charts. Previous recipients have included Heathers, The Coronas and Little Green Cars among others.

IMRO Number 1 Award for Julie Feeney

Julie Feeney joined us in the IMRO offices earlier this week to pick up her IMRO Number 1 Award in recognition of her third album, “Clocks”, reaching Number 1 in the Irish Independent Album Chart on its release. Julie was presented with her ward by IMRO Chairman, Keith Donald.

“Clocks” has received widespread acclaim since its release and was recently voted Irish Times Best Album of 2012. It is also one of the ten albums shortlisted for the Choice Music Prize Album of the Year 2012.

Julie took the time to have a chat with us about the album, her recent tour and her forthcoming opera, “Bird”, which goes into production later this year.
