Gigs Ireland will be hosting a Music Industry Night this Friday 14th March in association with Navan Shamrock Festival at The Stonehouse Bar, Navan. The event kicks off at 8pm.

Aubade is the first single taken from Kevin Nolan’s upcoming debut album, Frederick & The Golden Dawn. The single is a hauntingly, beautiful lullaby featuring Dublin songstress, Julie Feeney.
Kevin is a multi-instrumentalist usually performing all instruments himself as well as all vocals on his songs. He has gathered together a group of musicians to help him bring these songs to the stage. Author Rob Doyle simply wrote of Kevin’s live shows “Nolan is a seething cauldronful of the literary, the theatrical, and the gothically flamboyant, seasoned with a smattering of infernal burlesque” Nolan is self-taught musically and studied Philosophy and Fine Art at college. He has also published a volume of poetry entitled ‘Vibrations Of The Soul’. His new album ‘Fredrick & The Golden Dawn’ will be released on March 31st.
Aubade will be released on iTunes Ireland exclusively on 3rd March with a worldwide release on 7th March.

The Cork International Choral Festival is now accepting submissions for the annual Seán Ó Riada Composition Competition. The competition is organised as part of the programme for the 60th Cork International Choral Festival and invites the submission of new works from both established and emerging Irish composers.
Applicants are asked to submit their piece under a pseudonym and accompanied by a sealed envelope detailing the composers true identity, which is only opened once the Assessment Board have made their decision. The winning composition will be selected by an Assessment Board, comprising of composers and choral experts.
The winning composition will become a featured work at the Seminar for New Choral Music receiving its premiere performance during the Festival at a Gala Concert given by the National Chamber Choir of Ireland, conducted by Paul Hillier, on Friday 2nd May, 2014. The composer of the work will be invited to attend the Festival as its guest and play an active part in the Seminar session.
Previous winners of the competition include such well-known names as Rhona Clarke, Patrick Connolly, Séamas de Barra, Michael Holohan, Marian Ingoldsby, Simon MacHale, Michael McGlynn, Kevin O’Connell, and this year’s winner, Solfa Carlile.
Closing date for receipt of applications for the 2014 competition is 13th December 2013.

Singer/songwriter Ken Karson from Cincinnati Ohio USA is set to release his debut album, “Just in Time”, on 15th November.
Karson’s lyrics are crafted to expose the divisions that usually exist between light and dark, truth and falsehood, and pain and pleasure that we all wrestle with, but with a spiritual sensibility that his listeners will embrace.
In a modern world where sometimes the pace can be exhausting, listening to Karson’s music helps to slow life down as time well spent even if it’s only for a few fleeting minutes.
All of his tracks have been skilfully and professionally arranged and performed, and can be categorized as a collection of rock roots tracks, with both classical and modern persuasions. Whether the subject is serious or light-hearted, the quality of his music quickly becomes apparent as it is driven home by his straightforward and accessible style. He never uses flash or gimmicks, but presents each track with lyrical and musical clarity and soulful elegance.

Wexford singer-songwriter, Donna Marie, has just released her new single and video, “I’m Missin’ You”.
A longtime member of the Southeast’s legendary band “Breeze Junkie/Breeze52”, Donna Marie is now making the transfer from a talented and key band member to a leading solo artist.
In April 2010, Donna Marie released her debut Single “Simple Song”. Her second single “I Can’t See It” was released in April 2011, followed by her debut album “My Voice” on iTunes in February 2012.
Donna Marie has been taking it easy writing new songs, while still making some appearances supporting artists such as Davey Arthur & The Fureys, Brian Kennedy, Derek Ryan, Michael J Cloke, Gerry Carney,The Saw Doctors, The Jades, David O Connor, The Druids and many more. Donna Marie and her band also provided the half time entertainment for the 18,000 strong crowd at the crucial Leinster v Edinburgh Magners League rugby showdown in the RDS.

Severnside Composers’ Alliance, based in the UK, have announced a call for scores for original piano triets to be performed in March 2014.

The Songwriter Club is back in Dublin on Saturday 21st September from 2pm – 5pm at The Teachers Club, 36 Parnell Square West, Dublin 1.
Special guest speakers will be Dave Conway (Gigonometry) plus Kev Kirwan and Naomi O’Shea (Timebomb Sessions).
On Sunday 29th September, the club will be visiting Galway for the first time. The meeting will take place from 3pm to 6pm at The Secret Garden, 4 William Street West, Galway and will be hosted by local singer/songwriter, Noreena Gill, along with Keith McLoughlin.
The Songwriter Club was set up by Keith McLoughlin and Sinead McNally and has been running in Dublin since October 2011. The idea behind the club is to bring songwriters together every couple of months to chat about songwriting, the music industry, share ideas, set up collaborating groups and have fun getting to know each other.
There are usually special guests at the meetings, sharing information from different areas of the music industry. All songwriters, whatever the genre, whatever the standard are welcome to attend. The organisers ask for a €2 donation per person towards the use of the venue.

The 2014 edition of the professional summer program for emerging composers, Collegium Musicum, offers to a small number of selected composers from around the world the opportunity to have their works rehearsed and performed by a professional orchestra, the Levon Manukyan Collegium Musicum.
The composers will engage in a week of intensive workshops and conferences – live, and streamed online – from professional connections and network with colleagues from the arts industry. The program will take place between July 6th and July 15th, 2014 in Bourgas, Bulgaria and will involve active participants and auditors who will not have works performed. The event and the names of all participants will be heavily publicised in local and international media.
The main working language will be English. Note that selected active participants will not be asked to write works specifically for the internship, but the work must fit the provided instrumentation.
Total cost for active participants (tuition + hotel accommodation + two meals a day):
€1,200 – active participants
Total cost for auditors (tuition + hotel accommodation + two meals a day):
€400 – auditors
Merit-based financial aid is available
