Swords Release New Track ‘Betty Machete’ From Their Forthcoming Album Tidal Waves

Betty Machete is the first single from Swords forthcoming second album Tidal Waves.

Swords are a three piece band from Dublin, with members Diane Anglim (vocals & piano), Jarlath Canning (bass, guitars & synth) and Ian Frawley (drums).

The album Tidal Waves, due for release this winter, was produced by platinum selling producer Karl Odlum (The Frames, Gemma Hayes, Mic Christopher, Ham Sandwich), and Mastered by
Grammy winning engineer Mandy Parnell (Feist, Bjork, The xx, Sigur Ros, Tame Impala). It marks a departure in sound from Swords previous releases, the band noting a more considered approach to writing, live recording methods, sparse arrangements and a fuller, more
organic sound.

Swords Set to Release Debut Album | Lions & Gold

Swords-LionsGold-Web-ByDara-MunnisDublin-based band swords are set to play a headline performance in Whelan’s main venue on Friday July 5th, to launch their debut album “Lions & Gold”. It will be a significant step up for the band who have been working on the album for the past ten months.

The 11 track album has been pre empted by two single releases: “All The Boys” which became Phantom 105.2’s most played track and lifted the band into Dublin’s musical consciousness along with their Camden Crawl performance and an appearance on the TV show Other Voices. The second single, “Lions & Gold”, shows the bands depth & is a considered follow-up.

“Lions & Gold” the album will be available on iTunes, Google Play and Spotify from July 5th, and swords will have physical copies available for sale at the show in Whelan’s.

swords Announce Whelan’s Headline Gig

swordsAhead of their hotly-anticipated festival appearances at Camden Crawl and Vantastival, Dublin-based band swords have just announced their first ever headline performance in Whelan’s, Dublin on Friday July 5th.

Since their début EP Launch in 2012, the band has played an impressive number of shows throughout Ireland, including a headline slot at Electric Picnic. swords began 2013 on a sweet note, performing for Whelan’s Ones to Watch in January, and recording a live track for RTE’s Other Voices in February.

Drawing comparisons to Beach house, Portishead, Feist, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, their blend of guitars, synths, samples, loud drums, and keyboard hooks, along with Diane Anglim’s haunting and intimate vocals is something quite unique.

They approach songwriting with a passion and a need to express themselves honestly, and in the moment. ‘Our songs are changing as we change’ Anglim says, ‘they reflect the things we go through, and the energy we feel as we write. It’s important to us that we follow our ears and our own energies, instead of aiming for a certain musical genre.’

swords’ upcoming album ‘Lions and Gold’ is set for release in July 2013
