Cat Turner Shares ‘Situation’

Cat Turner returns with new single ‘Situation’ ahead of her upcoming EP release. The electro-synth artist first made waves with her debut EP receiving national airplay and drawing comparisons to artists like Grimes and Tove Lo. Her Clash Music-approved single ‘Waster’ saw her unpicking the complexities of millennial relationships, and live performances have included the Electric Picnic festival and slots with fellow ones-to-watch Pillow Queens.

Turner has won praise for her goth-pop sound, complete with her distinctive raw vocals and driving synths. She was recommended by Hot Press in their ‘Hot for 2019’ list, signalling the Galway-based singer-producer as one of the most promising voices on the Irish music scene and ‘Situation’ marks an ever-growing confidence for this exciting young artist. As always, there is a real sense of honesty with the lyricism on the new single as Turner dissects her own experiences –

“It’s a song about everything I’m not doing. I’m very driven and tend to get into my own bubble in life. It burst a little recently and I realised I was really missing out on a lot in life and generally just in what was going on around me. The song is that realisation and trying to figure out what to do with that.”

Anna Mullarkey Shares New Video

Anna Mullarkey has just shared the new video for her release ‘Sometimes’.

Exploring themes of personal growth, confusion, and uncertainty, Mullarkey uses analogue synthesisers and samples in this modern, minimalist track that came out last month. The probing beat and escalating electronic chimes are combined with an enchanting, ethereal voice, which draws the listener in. It is ominous and disquieting, but also suggests the potential for self-acceptance.

Cork Trio Greenshine Launch ‘Family’

June sees the launch of Cork family trio Greenshine’s third album. Coming from musical families themselves as well as the broader family of music (Noel and Mary have appeared on the albums and worked in studio with artists as diverse as The Republic of Loose, Dr. Strangely Strange and Christy Moore, while Ellie has sung on projects including Ger Shine’s ‘All The While’ and Grandfather ‘Paddy Greene’s Family Album’) they thought it only natural that Greenshine’s third release should be called ‘FAMILY’, especially in light of the fact that some of those beloved family members have passed away leaving a musical legacy that is coming to light through the current Greene-Shine generations.

The song ‘Little J’ was written by Mary to mark the passing of her brother Jason at the age of 48 and it’s followed on the album by a song he wrote called ‘Ricochet’ which he sang and played on a demo he made in the band’s studio a couple of years before he died. It was just a little sketch of a song he was working on and is very short and very sweet. After he passed away Mary went back and put harmonies to it. That time was difficult in the family’s life as Mary’s father Paddy died the week before Jason. A number of years prior to Paddy’s death the whole family made an album called ‘PADDY GREENE’S FAMILY ALBUM’. He was a wonderful singer and Mary can hear echoes of his voice in her own, her brother Willie’s and sometimes Ellie’s.

The 12 song collection is largely self penned and sees the emergence of Ellie as a songwriter, co-writing 2 tracks with Mary. Another co-write was ‘Brother’ which Mary wrote with Cormac O’Caoimh.

The album is dedicated to families in all their forms and features material which runs the gamut of emotions from happiness to grief. It also includes well chosen songs from some of the groups’ favourite songwriters including legends of American songwriting John Prine and Townes Van Zandt.

Two singles released in advance of  ‘FAMILY’, ‘Dandelion Seed’ and ‘The Good is Gone’ were co-written by Ellie and Mary and both songs hit the No. 1 spot on RTE Radio 1’s Airplay list where they rested for several weeks, emulating the success of previous single ‘THE GIRL IN THE LAVENDER DRESS’ which also went on to be third most played Irish track on RTE Radio 1 in the year of its release.

Hallmarks of ‘FAMILY’ are the tight family harmonies and multi instrumental work for which the trio is renowned and features guest singers Sadie Shine and Jason Greene, Pat Crowley on piano, Eithne Willis on violin and viola, Karen O’ Halloran, cello,  Martin Leahy on drums, bass and pedal steel and David Murphy on pedal steel. Christy Moore described Greenshine as: “…the sound of a family immersed in music, tight in harmony, in love with song,” – a fitting tribute to a family who has made music their life.

The launch of Greenshine’s third album ‘FAMILY’ will be celebrated with a series of concerts and festivals which takes them all over Ireland throughout the Summer. For more details on the ‘FAMILY’ nationwide tour visit www.facebook.com/greenshinepeople

Stolen City Release Brand New Single

Dublin-based band Stolen City are continuing to build on their success, with the release of a brand new single set for June 7th 2019.

The track ‘Coming Home’ displays the fun and energetic sound that fans of the trio will have become accustomed to.

The latest song was recorded in Hebert Place studio by Michael Brady, with whom the band have a long-term working relationship, and was mastered by Fergal Davis.

Speaking ahead of the release, guitarist David McCabe said: “We wrote this song with our audience in mind – like we always say, we really want people to listen to us and bop along.”

I even got to try out my own vocals on this track which I hope brings a different vibe – something more energetic, more upbeat.” he shared.

The release is part of an overall eventful summer for the lads, who are continuing to work on increasing their following and gaining further interest across the Irish music scene. They already have three major festivals to look forward to – Indiependence, Sult Festival and Vantastival.

Keywest Share Latest Release

Keywest have just released their brand double single ‘I’m Not Me Without You/Don’t Let Me Down’, out today 7 June 2019. These are the second songs to be released off their upcoming Marshall Records debut album ‘Ordinary Superhero’, which is now available for pre-order with exclusive bundles through Transistor Music here.

‘I’m Not Me Without You’ is an emotional duet with Irish singer Una Healy (formerly of the multi-platinum selling act The Saturdays) which is about two people who realise they may be perfect for each other, but are too afraid to ask, even though they are going around in circles in their own lives.

‘Don’t Let Me Down’ is an uptempo folk track about being in limbo with somebody you’re in love with, knowing that the other person feels something, but hoping they come through in the end. The song showcases Jimi’s textured electric guitar playing and the band’s ability to craft larger-than-life, singalong choruses.

The band’s debut album ‘The Message’ entered the top 20 in Ireland, second album ‘Joyland’ went to Number 1 in Ireland in 2015, third album ‘True North’ went to Number 3 in Ireland and they had a string of radio hits such as ‘Carousel’, ‘This Is Heartbreak’, ‘This Summer’, ‘Something Beautiful’ and ‘Cold Hands’. The band have sold out shows across Ireland, including three Dublin sell out shows at The Olympia Theatre, The Academy and Whelan’s, all within 10 months. In addition to sold out headline shows, the band has performed at festivals including British Summer Time, Country 2 Country and Country Music Week in London and Longitude and Electric Picnic festivals in Ireland. The band have recently completed a 13 date Irish, UK and European tour, which included a sold out 1,200 capacity O2 Academy Liverpool show.

Keywest are widely known for their explosive live performances. The four-piece Dublin based band comprises of Kav, Glover, Jimi and Harry. The band formed after being introduced during a trip to Los Angeles where they became friends. Starting out in Dublin, the band found the gig scene in Ireland very slow and began busking, taking their sound directly to the people of Ireland. Whilst honing their sound and style the band became famous and well known for busking on Shop Street in Galway and Grafton Street in Dublin.

Out now, ‘I’m Not Me Without You/Don’t Let Me Down’ are the latest tracks to be released from Keywest’s upcoming Marshall Records debut ‘Ordinary Superhero’, which is due for release on the 27 September 2019, with an Irish, UK and European tour to follow.

ELKIN have been back in the studio with producer Dan McIntyre (lullahush /  Æ MAK) and the result is this soulful funk infused pop ballad ‘Cut My Tongue’. Dark lyrics are complemented by the sultry style, slick production and laid back summer sound.

Ellen and Carla were writing and singing together from the age of 15 before taking their music to a new level as ELKIN. Following the release of debut single Paro, ELKIN were named as one of State.ie’s Faces of 2018.
