Participant Profile:

This course is targeted at composers who wish to advance their careers and learn more about promoting themselves in the industry.

Seminar Profile:

In a time of great sophistication in film, television and game production, why is music (arguably the most artificial element of film making) still an essential component?  What does it bring to the audience that no other aspect of production or post-production can?  Exploring the answer to this question allows the screen composer to better serve the production, the filmmaker and the audience.

The Director/Composer relationship:  This working relationship is our responsibility not the director’s.  There are many interviews with “A-List” directors and composers but what if you and your director are not on the A-list yet?  Without the same resources (financial and schedule-wise) the relationship becomes even more important and often more complex.  How can we overcome “temp love”, “striping” and unrealistic time and budget demands.  How do we prepare the filmmaker to like our music?

ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis

ASCAP offers a one-of-a-kind experience for aspiring film and television composers. 12 selected participants will have an opportunity to record their original composition with an “A list” of Hollywood professionals, including a 60-piece orchestra of LA’s finest musicians on a major studio film scoring stage, a legendary scoring mixer, professional music editors, copyists and composers acting as coaches and mentors. In addition, there are “from the horse’s mouth” sessions with studio executives, agents, attorneys and music supervisors.

This workshop is intended for composers who are seriously pursuing music for film, TV, video games and other visual media as a career. It is not for hobbyists, nor is it for professionals who already have active composing careers.
